This year we’re trialling some poms, and boy are they cute.

These two are Willo Night and Glenbanc Little Angel. It feels horrible knocking off all the buds to get good stem length, but they do respond well to that trim.

Remember to always contact your supplier to determine where the mix up happened. Everyone I’ve contacted has been amazingly helpful and feedback is key to doing things better next time.

A wonderful grower in Goulburn recommended a few stunning dahlias that were new to us this year … to be honest Coorabell Texas is a lemon version of Boundary Snowflake. Here they are together for comparison

I love the tight petal formation of both. Texas is a larger flowe by around 1-2cm, so they are also close on size too

I’ve had Boundary Snowflake for a few years now and it is always the tallest in the patch …. But I think Coorabell Texas is going to eclipse it this year! Let the competition begin!

Hello beautiful dahlia ladies! Today we’re featuring Helena, CK Faye and Breannon

Helena is the star today with her dark pink/cerise tones and white tips standing out in terms of boldness.

Then there is CK Faye. A lavender beauty with stunning form and shape. The flower in this pic has unfortunately been nibbled on by a caterpillar, so her lavender tips are not all there! 🐛

Breannon is a bronze flower that people either love or hate …. There’s no inverter in our experience. I love how she is upward facing entirely and sits centre stage in any bouquet.

It’s a waterlily day!

Here are three of our lovely waterlily dahlias in our breeding patch. There are 18 waterlily varieties crammed into one spot to cross breed.

We’re lucky enough to have a location that is at least 1km away from anyone else with dahlias, so we’re letting the bees do the heavy lifting. 😇

These three are Stannum Jill, Amy and Figurine. Can you believe I forgot to add Ken’s Gold to the bed!🫤

Yesterday, my daughter asked… “can I sell your flowers on Valentines Day?”

I didn’t say no. So I helped her pick, bunch and wrap some up.

If youre in Braidwood today and see a tiny cart outside, my daughter is hiding under the verandah out of the rain and will help you out.

She’s aiming for $25 per bunch. I think she’s done a great job maybe needs a bigger sign next time.

This beautiful Anemone dahlia deserves its own post it is that spectacular

Firetail Burning certainly lives up to its name. With vivid yellows and orange, this flower has great stem length and buds galore! It is the largest anemone I’ve ever grown.

This one is a keeper.

Rokewood Susan is what I’d describe as a soft red. Very delicate looking petals but a very robust flower on awesome stems

Devon Safari is going to be one of my favourites this year. The under side of the petals are a distinct lavender with the petals a dark red, almost cerise, hue. The ball shape sets off the petal contrast

Christie Merlot is by far the brightest red so far. Not a hint of orange at all and such a gorgeous formal set of petals.

Here’s some sunshine on a dreary wet day for you

Ken’s gold is a stunning waterlily dahlia that packs a punch from a size and brightness perspective. Honestly one of the brightest blooms I’ve grown. This variety has been in my humble patch from the first bed I’ve grown several years ago. It stores well too for me!

Light Accord is a new one to us this year. I’ve started adding strange shaped ones as they really make a vase of flowers pop. This is a semi-cactus with a pale yellow colouring that is consistent throughout

Glenbanc Little Angel was a last minute edition for me this season. I visited the Collectors Plant Fair and decided I needed a white Pom. Such a contrast to Light Accord.

Here are two in the patch with some serious contrasts

Florelie Raspberry Cheesecake is measuring at a small decorative. This stunning book has flecks of Burgandy over a creamy yellow base. Very nice contrast

Edinburgh is a really lovely flouncy medium decorative bloom with a deep purple centre and white tips on every petal.

It will be interesting to see how they look in a bouquet on the table with others

Now we have more dahlias than I can poke a stick at … and with over 200 varieties on the farm, I’ll be doubling and tripling up on the posts!

So these three are my absolutely favourite blooms … Florelie Oracle, Brian’s Dream and Woden Valley.

Last year, Florelie Oracle grew to enormous heights exceeding 1.8m … I’ll need to remember to be a bit more brutal as the season progresses. I just love the golden tips at the end of every petal

Brian’s Dream is new this year and certainly doesn’t disappoint. I’m going to be taking soooooo many cutting off Brians Dream ….

Woden Valley has the palest lavender sheen on all its petals … if there was suck a thing as floral glitter, this would be my description of how the lavender shows on the petals. It glows.

The first water lily dahlia has finally opened! Welcome Figurine!

Her shape is lovely, if a bit more decorative than Kelgai Anne … which has buds on it.

Figurine has a lovely upward facing bloom which will be awesome in a vase

I’m pretty sure that Dainty Sue takes out the prettiest pink category in my patch this year.

Ok, what’s this crazy chick doing now? If you’ve driven past in the last few days, you’ll have noticed that the front field is plowed up rather strategically … in preparation for our fire pit, pittosporum hedge and dahlia extravaganza! Why? Because I’m on holidays and decided to accelerate the plans for September a little early! 😂 Plus I also had a few extra tubers that just didn’t fit into the fenced area of the farm (thanks to the wild piggies) 🐷 This new space will be where the dahlias migrate to next year … Summer tree pruning is also needed. So many things on my list! With this rain though, I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to finish up
