Triplets Found in a Single Egg! (Cedric x Geralt Clutch)
We had a stunning and heartbreaking discovery today while checking the last eggs from our Cedric x Geralt clutch. Itβs a powerful reminder that breeding animals isnβt always sunshine and rainbows.
We found one egg with the tell-tale bad smell.
When we opened it up, we were completely floored: THREE fully formed baby Carpet Pythons were inside!π² Triplet Pythons in a Standard Egg!
We regularly find twins, but triplets are incredibly rare, even though we know they've been documented occasionally.
What makes this finding even more dramatic? The egg was the same size as all the others in the clutch. A standard egg somehow managed to sustain three separate lives almost to term!
The Difficult Reality of Loss π
Sadly, all three babies were deceased.
Simple biology is why: a standard egg just doesn't contain the massive amount of yolk (nutrients) or space needed for three pythons to complete development and hatch. They essentially ran out of resources at the finish line.
This is the challenging side of breeding. Things like this happen. You experience beautiful successes, but you also deal with tragedy and loss. It requires emotional resilience and an understanding that every outcome, positive or negative, is part of the process.
Breeding animals is not for everyone. It takes commitment, knowledge, and the ability to handle difficult moments like this.
We wanted to share this difficult lesson openly. Sending good vibes to all the dedicated keepers out there!
