A page dedicated to open mic nights hosted by Steve Elbourn, namely a new event at HODFELLOW'S BRWEING Co at Geebung Brisbane's newest open mic venue.

Hodfellow's Brewing Co !! Come and share the stage. Operating from 3pm til 6pm Fortnightly on Saturdays. Check page for next dates . Free drink for each performer. no need to sign up in advance, just put name down on the day. Standard set length will be 3-5 songs, depending on how many others waiting to perform. Hodfellow's, also put on live music, so this is also a chance to get booked for a futu

re gig. Your host Steve actually started out doing open mic nights, before being offered permanent paying gigs. Its a great way to gain confidence whilst at the same time networking with other like minded people. What is provided ? Pa system ,2 Mics, use of Tanglewood acoustic guitar (or bring your own), music stand, & a supportive environment. Please note: if you don't play an instrument, but fancy yourself as a singer, and have backing tracks, that's fine. We can play your backing music through the PA system. Alternatively if you don't have it on mp3 yourself, email me the links to your songs of choice to [email protected] and I will download them for you, but please, allow a few days for preparation. Oh, did I mention there is a BAR there as well? Enjoy a wine or a beer whilst supporting live music. FAMILY venue. So younger performers are more than welcome. Bring your dog, bring your friends

Nervous about attending an open mic? Don't be, you don't need to be PERFECT. Just willing to get up and have a go.
To prove my point ... Here is international superstar Phil Collins... Watch at 0:28sec and he makes a little mistake on the piano, and has himself a little giggle.

However here's a few simple tips to prepare:
1. TUNE UP.. before you get on stage. Most hosts will inform you that you're on next .. that's not your tip to scull 1 more beer !! It's your notice to prep yourself for a smooth changeover of acts.

2. SET LIST: have a list ready of songs you intend to play.. always throw in a few extra in case someone else has already played it, or you get a chance to do a longer set.

3: NETWORK: engage with the other performers and staff. Don't just rush off after you play.... You never know where it might lead.

4: ASK FOR A GIG: If you are gig ready and are seeking gigs, ask someone to film your performance to upload to your social media, or even better ask if the venue manager could watch you for at least a short period. Consider it a mini audition

Whatever your level of ability, just enjoy.

Thinking about trialling out a new open mic concept.. Acts have 30 seconds to impress the audience, who then vote via phone app "STAY" or "NAY".. Obviously this guy got voted NAY....
