Alterations were made to the formal dress, commencing with the removal of lace prior to taking out the boning, then taking it in and reinstating all original components to maintain the identical finished appearance.

Footwear is essential for dress fittings. This week, six clients forgot their shoes. Standing on toes doesn't account for shoe height, as the base height remains the same. Flats also provide some lift, as seen with a customer whose dress was too long until she wore flats. I verify hem length satisfaction and ensure comfortable walking in the dress with shoes. Without them, I cannot proceed.

I appreciate the votes for Carolann Bridal Wear during the bridal awards in the last year and the preceding five years. Having closed the shop to enter semi-retirement, my focus has shifted to offering alteration services from home. Dress splits vary: the first two are cut-out designs that cannot be adjusted, but the maroon dress and the wedding dress in the last picture have splits that can be taken down.

The process of altering the bust of a wedding dress is intricate and time-consuming. First, the lace is delicately removed from the tulle, adjusted, and then reattached. Next, the boning is taken out, the inner and outer satin is tailored, and the boning and bra cups are replaced. Lastly, the top is secured and topstitched for a polished appearance.

Completing a hem of this nature requires a substantial time investment. It comprised two layers of satin, two inner layers of tulle, and a top layer with horsehair, which significantly adds to the time required due to the necessity of removal and reapplication. Each layer necessitates individual cutting.

We dressed another two mothers of the bride/groom; one travelled from the Gold Coast. The mothers of the bride/groom picked their dresses for $80 and $100. We still have dresses for ladies priced from $50 to $200.

This week has been exceptionally busy, with four brides collecting their altered wedding dresses. Additionally, formal and event dresses were altered and picked up, while three formal dresses were sold for upcoming events. A bride also found her perfect wedding dress today for her ceremony next week at an affordable $350. We still have some stock available. Now, I'm looking forward to a well-deserved long weekend break with my family, particularly my husband, as we embark on a mini vacation.

With a wedding dress, it's never just a hem. The process is very detailed. To begin, you must bring the shoes you'll wear on the day; without them, I won't proceed with alterations, as guessing the length isn't an option. As shown in pictures, the length is marked. The horsehair is removed and replaced to the desired length. Then, the lining must be adjusted. Some dresses have hems with multiple layers, requiring cutting and stitching of up to six layers, plus underlayers.
