A night of fun, games and entertainment plus a Santa visit with lollies for the children and young at heart. The Hall is managed by a volunteer committee appointed by Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)

Bonfire & Trees – Farmers’ Night
What a terrific night it was! The bonfire was glowing, and farmers along with friends of farmers gathered for an evening filled with laughter, banter, and shared stories.

We learned so much about farm trees and why they are such an important part of a successful farm strategy. There was also plenty of talk about the green drought we’re experiencing. Matt shared that a local farm, which has rainfall records dating back to 1903, has recorded just 224mm Jan-Jun this year – making it the second driest year on record. The driest was 2007, with only 191mm, which is devastating when our average annual rainfall should be close to 950mm.

A delicious traditional country dinner topped off the night perfectly.

A huge thank you to:
🌾 Valley Farmers – for coming along and joining the fun
💡 Matt Lloyd – for the brilliant idea and sharing local insights
🍽 Budgeree Hall Committee – for the mouth-watering catering and beautiful venue
🌳 Landcare Yinnar & Yinnar South – for such an engaging and informative talk on trees
🎟 Latrobe City Council – for providing tree vouchers for our lucky raffle winners
💐Blooms on the Hill for the donation of the flowers.
❤️ Over the Farm Gate – Centre for Farmers’ Health – as part if the 2025 dought support package for the grant that made this event possible

A warm fire, great food, important conversations, and even better company – a night to remember.

It is with heavy hearts that we say a final farewell to Geoff Owen, a much-loved member of the Budgeree and Boolarra communities, who passed away on Monday, June 23 at Latrobe Regional Hospital.

Geoff had a deep connection to Budgeree — having attended the local school in the 1970s and 80s, he remained dedicated to the place throughout his life. He was often seen caring for the hall and school grounds, always lending a hand and keeping the spirit of the community alive.

Geoff will be fondly remembered for his warm nature, his generosity, and his love for the open road — especially behind the wheel of a big truck.

Our thoughts are with his partner Paige, daughter Penny, parents Edgar and Edith, siblings Maree, Cheryl and Gary, and all extended family and friends who share in this loss.

Farewell, Geoff — may your final truck ride be smooth and endless.

OWEN -The funeral service for Geoffrey Owen will be held at the Rose Chapel, Gippsland Memorial Park, Cemetery Rd Traralgon, on Wednesday 2nd July 2025, commencing at 11am.
Following this service the funeral will proceed to the Hazelwood Cemetery. 🪴
This service will also be live-streamed.
