Budgeree Hall

Budgeree Hall The Budgeree Hall is the heart of our farming community. Our mission, a connected community. This page does NOT provide emergency information.

The core values of the Budgeree Hall are Respect, Dignity, Tolerance, Inclusion and Diversity. We are here to build community by providing a space where people can come together for positive interactions. The Budgeree Hall is the keystone for the local remote rural community. It provides events throughout the year that encourages the local residents and surrounding regions to come together to swa

The most popular event is the annual Budgeree Christmas Tree, which has been running since 1885 and is held the second Saturday in December. A night of fun, games and entertainment plus a Santa visit with lollies for the children and young at heart. The Hall is managed by a volunteer committee appointed by Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)

In Loving Memory of Nat Roy

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Nat Roy — a treasured friend, a pillar of our community, and a woman whose kindness touched everyone she met.

Nat dedicated over 50 years to the Budgeree Hall committee, serving with unwavering commitment and heart. Her tireless efforts helped shape the hall into the vibrant gathering place it is today, and her legacy will continue to echo through its walls.

She was the kind of friend who always showed up — with a warm smile, a listening ear, and often, a plate of scones or her famous passion fruit sponge. Her generosity, humour, and gentle spirit made every moment brighter.

A celebration of Nat’s life will be held on Monday September 29 at Boolarra Co Operating Church from 10:30am.

What a wonderful afternoon of music. Everything from the classics to Westside Story and into the woods followed by an impromptu piano recital. The Monash Medical orchestra delighted everyone yet again and even played Happy Birthday to celebrate Edgar’s 85 th birthday.
You can see the full orchestra play tomorrow night at Fed Uni in Churchill together with the Kurnai College band.

Bonfire & Trees – Farmers’ Night
What a terrific night it was! The bonfire was glowing, and farmers along with friends of farmers gathered for an evening filled with laughter, banter, and shared stories.

We learned so much about farm trees and why they are such an important part of a successful farm strategy. There was also plenty of talk about the green drought we’re experiencing. Matt shared that a local farm, which has rainfall records dating back to 1903, has recorded just 224mm Jan-Jun this year – making it the second driest year on record. The driest was 2007, with only 191mm, which is devastating when our average annual rainfall should be close to 950mm.

A delicious traditional country dinner topped off the night perfectly.

A huge thank you to:
🌾 Valley Farmers – for coming along and joining the fun
💡 Matt Lloyd – for the brilliant idea and sharing local insights
🍽 Budgeree Hall Committee – for the mouth-watering catering and beautiful venue
🌳 Landcare Yinnar & Yinnar South – for such an engaging and informative talk on trees
🎟 Latrobe City Council – for providing tree vouchers for our lucky raffle winners
💐Blooms on the Hill for the donation of the flowers.
❤️ Over the Farm Gate – Centre for Farmers’ Health – as part if the 2025 dought support package for the grant that made this event possible

A warm fire, great food, important conversations, and even better company – a night to remember.
