Brisbane Powerhouse is thrilled to announce the first round of acts that are set to perform in venues across the city as part of the new and improved Melt Festival 2024.
fest (or should we say Melt 2.0), will burst out of Brisbane Powerhouse and transform the Queensland capital into an epicentre of Q***r art and culture from 23 October to 10 November 2024, the most glorious time of year to visit the river city.

With music, theatre, visual art, parties, parades and more already on the agenda, there’s gold for everyone at the end of the Melt rainbow!

Melt Open, Brisbane’s major new festival celebrating Q***r art and culture is thrilled to unveil the program’s official ambassador, and announce that registrations for a major 2024 event, River Pride Parade are now open. Hello sailor!

There simply could not be a more perfect inaugural ambassador for Melt Open than Brisbane-bred, international icon…. 💫

In an epic, floating celebration of LGBTQIA+ communities and allies, Melt Open invites EVERYONE to join the inaugural River Pride Parade 2024. This family-friendly spectacle is Brisbane’s own mardi-raft on the river, with a flotilla of vessels set to make the journey from William Jolly Bridge to Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday 9 November 2024. With the option to register your own boat, cruise with another or simply enjoy the spectacle from the riverbank, there’s a place for everyone at the River Pride Parade.

Tunick will return to Brisbane in 2024 for a significantly larger installation, as part of the inaugural Melt Open, the city’s major new festival celebrating q***r art and culture.

The art installation for Melt Open will take place across Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge on Sunday 27 October 2024. The bridge will be closed for this mammoth project which will feature thousands of live n**e figures in celebration of diversity, equity, inclusion and Brisbane’s vibrant LGBTQIA+ community.

Meet the team: Heyo I’m Mon!

I’ve been at Scrabble PR for a year and a half now and I’ve worked and studied events and music for the last 5 years and let’s just say I’m absolutely loving it. Since I was 14, I’ve always dreamed of working for music festivals and as a Publicity Coordinator, those dreams have been fulfilled.

During my time at Scrabble, I’ve worked and helped create beautiful moments across Australian major music festivals, artist releases, tour campaigns and more. I thoroughly enjoy making release forms and social posts… yes I said release forms, idk I kinda get a kick out of making something a little pretty and uniform.

Besides, eating, breathing, and indulging in music I’m a sucker for Love Island and Survivor along with playing netball, Catan and froth a beach day. Since moving to Bundjalung Country I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner and super grateful to be living in a beautiful part of the world with my partner.

Heaps Good is back, heaps bigger, and living up to its name with a lineup that’s set to bring the party to South Australia, Victoria and Queensland over the 2023/2024 New Year period.

Meet the team: Hello! I’m Layla!

This November will mark 5 years since I made the move from Sydney to Byron to work with Gabe at Scrabble PR! Since then, I have worked on a whole heap of PR campaigns for some of Australia’s biggest music festivals, national tours, artist releases, brands, art shows and more.

I LOVE a team brainstorm and when small creative ideas grow and develop into an effective campaign that connects a client to their audience, and there’s no shortage of that at Scrabble!

My favourite thing about my job is the people I get to work with every day. Not only Gabe (best boss in the world) and Mon from our internal team, but also the clients and friends we make along the way. From the different promoters and marketing teams to site builders, photographers and more, I think that those who work behind the scenes are just as talented and creative as the artists on stage.

Now living back in Sydney with my partner, I work remotely and love to take advantage of the freedom and flexibility that allows me by setting up somewhere in the sun, or a local café. When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me on a long walk with the cutest doggo in the world (a border collie x kelpie named Luna), reading by the closest body of water I can find, binge-watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or visiting my family back home in Newcastle (aka God’s Country).

Meet the team: Hi I’m Gabe.

I started Scrabble PR over 20 years ago and I’ve been a music and arts publicist for even longer. Over that time, I’ve created countless successful PR campaigns for iconic Australian music festivals, arts events, national tours, artists and brands.

I love telling stories that spark authentic connection between a client and their audience and dreaming up new and innovative ways for that interaction to happen. I never feel more at home than when I’m sitting in a site office trying to connect to some dodgy wifi.

Alongside music, I’ve had a lifelong passion for art and craft and was co-founder and curator of Splendour in the Grass’ craft tent for 7 years. I am also slightly too obsessed with dogs and sometimes daydream about writing the copy for RSPCA dogs up for adoption.

Earlier this year I was very fortunate to have a kidney transplant, which has changed my life, so I also try to spread the message about organ donation whenever possible. You can sign up to the donor register at donatelife.gov.au

I live and work on beautiful Bundjalung Country with my husband, two teenage kids and my tiny dog who I love desperately even though he’s a bit of a sh****ad.
