The Floating World 🎏

“As a child I would gaze up at the fish in the tanks at Chinese restaurants.
These days, as I paint fish, I reflect on what I felt as a child staring up at these
tanks: wonder, curiosity, excitement. I experience these emotions as I paint.
Yet these emotions have become more complex, tinted with grief and nostalgia.
A homage to childhood wonder, becomes an allegory of the transience of life.
Life is like a dream.”

The floating world Exhibition by opens at Braer Studio / Garden Kiosk on Friday, November 1st!

Inspired by Christo’s Wrapped Bouquet of Roses (1969), we reimagined the piece with locally grown ranunculus and calendula. Wrapped in compostable cellophane and h**p string, our version contrasts Christo’s use of artificial materials, making a quiet statement on sustainability (what does that even really mean?)
Awkwardly beautiful, it reflects the fragility and fleeting nature of flowers—an ode to the ephemeral beauty of nature. 🥀🥀
