Developed in England, and popular throughout the UK, pantomime is a musical comedy stage production for a family audience. Pantomimes include song, dance, slapstick comedy, innuendo, gender-crossing actors, Christmas and fairy-tale themes and topical local humour. Pantomime is participatory and audiences are expected to sing along and shout out phrases during the show.
