A new way of challenging ourselves and our fears! Build confidence & resilence.

After the success of the Bollywood Charity Ball, our community was excited for Bollywood Dance classes to commence.

After many discussions, we found a venue, date and time.

Under GOPIO Cairns Inc. we started our first Bollywood beginner dance classes, after 12 weeks of practice given by Baishali Sinha Roy Sengupta (Donna), we performed in front of a public crowd for the first time.

My fear of public appearance is slowly removing from my mind and I encourage everyone to take part in our upcoming dance programs for Cairns Indian Festival more details to be released soon....

Today is India's biggest colour festival celebrated all around the world and inspired many color runs.

There are many stories, why we celebrate Holi every year with colours....

One being, God Krishna turned blue, while Radha was fair complexion. Krishna loved Radha so he coloured her in his colours and played Holi with her. The tradition of playing Holi with colours is taken from this story of Krishna and Radha.

Holi brings people together, from all diverse backgrounds, its a fun day out with colours and water.

Dancing is a great form of Art and expression and gives us joy and happiness, when we hear our favourite songs on the dance floor.

Thank you, Donna Baishali Sinha Roy Sengupta who entertained our crowd, with her upbeat and vibrant personality, which captivated the audience. Donna has been performing for Cairns for more than 15 years, she has great talent, bringing out her emotions on stage as a performer.

Thank you to DJ Lipgloss Angela, who made our Ladies and Gents dance, Angela has been DJing for over 10 years in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Canberra and other cities nationally. We were super lucky to secure a Female DJ on International Women's Day.

Thank you Dr. Suresh (Vice President) GOPIO Cairns Inc. showing his support for International Women's Day with welcoming our Guests. Dr Suresh is the owner of Cosmedic Beauty Cairns, he also spoke about why he chose help women be more comfortable in their skin, feel confident and embrace our modern society.

Our first speaker Shweta Goyal is a Mother of a beautiful son and works as a Maths and Science Teacher, she has devoted her PHD to Women STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) and work life balance. Her findings and studies are based on how we can support/mentor girls into STEM roles and lead in the future and make a difference.

Lesley Clarke runs her small business known as Scalable Skills, which focuses on Mentoring, Coaching and Leadership. Lesley spoke about Neurodiversity, individual strengths and weaknesses, know what you stand for, living with integrity and supporting each other. Most importantly love who you are as a person, step into your power and LEAD.

Reema Naresh, travelled from Brisbane, she works for University of Queensland in the Australian Women and Girls Heath Research centre. Reema engaged the crowd with her Yoga techniques learnt from Art of Living and spoke about how our multicultural women (migrants) need to take a stand, know your rights in Australia and voice our concerns. The current Longitudinal study requires our voice to help make a policy change, self advocacy, and participate in health research to assist researchers with ongoing projects.
