These Precious Hours: Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas Reimagined || 28 June Llewellyn Hall Canberra

Canberra Qwire (proudly LGBTQIA+) steps back in time, joining forces with some of ACT’s finest musicians in their landmark performance, These Precious Hours: Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas Reimagined.

We invite you to join Qwire as we reinterpret Henry Purcell’s 1689 opera, Dido & Aeneas, exploring themes of Q***r love, loss and heartache with music that transcends generations.

Joined by four soloists and a chamber ensemble, led by the exceptional Ellery Quartet, Qwire will perform the opera in its entirety, returning to the stage after intermission offering a musical response to Dido & Aeneas with contemporary repertoire.

Wednesday 14 / Thursday 15 May || Llewellyn Hall, Canberra

Canberra Symphony Orchestra brings Beethoven’s iconic Violin Concerto in D major to life on the Llewellyn Hall stage with full orchestra and the extraordinary soloist Anna da Silva Chen.

Anna is one of Australia’s leading concert violinists, known for her expressive power and virtuosic skill. She will join the CSO under the baton of guest conductor Carlo Antonioli.

Widely considered one of the greatest works in violin repertoire, this concerto blends elegance, intensity and emotional depth—offering a glimpse into Beethoven’s creative mastery and inner world.

The program also features a world premiere by Composer in Connection Peggy Polias, and Ravel’s colourful ‘Ma mère l’Oye’, a richly imaginative suite inspired by classic children’s tales.
