A Stunning wedding to compliment the most Beautiful bride!
This is a wedding my assistant and I styled in February 2016.
The bride had a beautiful champagne colour palette with little pops of pink and burgundy throughout.

Wedding Coordinator vs. wedding planner vs. stylist

This weeks Wedding Wednesday is wedding coordinator vs. Wedding planner vs. stylist – What do they do?

The most common question event planners, wedding planners, event stylists and wedding coordinators all get asked is what exactly do you do?

A lot of people have misconceptions of wedding planners and wedding stylists and what we actually offer.

So today I am here to give you a brief description for each service.

Tip*

The wedding industry doesn’t have any set standards as far as obtaining a certificate of any kind. This means that anyone can actually open up a wedding or event business. If this is a requirement you expect from your planner, make sure to ask them what qualifications they have obtained.

Here is a quick run down of the job titles and a brief description of what they do.

Wedding planners:

When you hire a wedding planner the services you receive can rapidly vary, ensure the planner you hire is providing a service that will be helping you with your set requirements; coordination, sourcing suppliers, tracking and managing RSVPs, menus, helping with time lines, full services planning, colour schemes and themes.

A full services wedding planner will be your go to person every step of the way up until you leave for your honey moon.

We will do everything from selecting venues, overseeing all the logistics, day of timelines (this will ensure each minute is accounted for, create the perfect fit for your style, budget, and taste). We help with etiquette assistance, tablescapes, budgets, permits, florists, catering, décor, invoicing and all emailing.

Wedding planners also offer day of wedding planning and wedding coordination.

Day of wedding -

This is a service that caters for couples that need help on the day of the wedding such as managing the days timeline, setting up the reception and ceremony areas, ensuring vendors are arriving on time and the set down of the nights venue.

Wedding day coordinators -

Day of coordinators are hired part way through, as most couples hire them for an extra set of hands on the day and in the lead up to your big day.

Three to Eight weeks out from your wedding day you will meet with your day of coordinator to discuss the finer details so that on the day everything runs flawlessly.

We will create timelines and work with the booked vendors, caterers and stylists. We will assist with final payments, invoices and any last minute jobs.

Tip*

Not all planning services offer styling services so make sure you enquire before you book any planner, stylist or coordinator.

Wedding Stylists & designers -

A wedding stylist or designer is dedicated strictly to the design element of your wedding. Things such as tablescapes, linens, bouquets, photo backdrops, floral, ceremony programs, floor plans, décor and lighting.

Basically anything involves the look and feel of your wedding that is what they are responsible for.

This week’s wedding Wednesday is DIY vs BUY

Currently in the wedding scene DIY is as popular as Naked cakes– However if you can’t glue a stick to a piece of paper, you are already at a huge disadvantage.

So what do you do? Not everyone is crafty, in fact not many people have the time nor patience to be crafty.

Sometimes DIY is not always the cheapest option either.

Now don’t get me wrong I am a huge advocate for all things DIY- I'm not sure why because I put countless hours in for not much of a return, This could be because I have two toddlers helping me out with every project I try to attempt- (Well that’s my excuse anyway)

What to consider for a DIY bride

Pinterest and blogs make it seem easy to take on DIY projects but you need to ensure taking on countless DIY projects that could potentially need days, hours, possibly weeks dedicated to them is the right move. Sure this may be realistic if you are planning your wedding two years from now, but it takes an average of 200 solid hours to plan a single wedding. Now incorporate this with working, children, your normal life, your husband or wife to be, is DIY really a possibility?

You need to ask yourself why are you planning DIY projects? Is it to save money or is it for your own enjoyment? Perhaps it to show everyone your nifty creative side! Perhaps is a stress relief?

Tips: Ensure you research the costs involved with the items you will need to create your project.

Do a practice run on the project, that will give you an approximate time and then you need to multiply that to time to ensure you leave enough time in your creative wine time sessions.

Research alternate cheaper options either pre made or actual supplies – Etsy, Ebay and Ali express are all good resources.

Do you have a friend that is really crafty that would be willing to help? These are all possible solutions.

Simple DIY projects can in fact save you a lot of money by doing your own table settings, floral arrangements and place card settings. However choosing a complicated floral arrangement may in fact cost you more.

If you don’t research the costs and the time that is needed on your items it may just be more costly and stressful then the potential pay off.

If you are still considering being a DIY bride consider these helpful tips:

- Be selective with the projects you choose.

- Make sure you play to your strengths or your helpers strengths (don’t undertake a task that will be a potential failure for E.g., cross stitch your vows when you cant sow to save your life)

- Plan a head (calculate the time + cost + your own mental health)

- Have a planned schedule in place – (This may sound pretty lame, however if you dedicate a few hours one day a week you will be in front and less stressed then the person that doesn’t create a schedule and realises two weeks before the wedding that 100 succulent pots need painting.)

- Don’t leave it to close to your wedding (Try to complete things way in advance in case you need another back up)

- Do trial runs and mock-ups to see if you can complete it to the standard you had hoped for at your wedding.

- Google free fonts and templates for stationary or gifts.

- Watch plenty of online tutorials then watch them again.

Simple meaningful touches can be the icing on the cake when it comes to any wedding or event but not at the expense of your stress levels, so choose your projects wisely, practice the time it takes and pre calculate all the costs involved to ensure it doesn’t cost more than you had anticipated- It may in fact work out more expensive then a item you really wanted but you thought it was too expensive.

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks Wedding Wednesday if you have any questions or you need a particular topic covered comment below.
