Seeing In Colour ~ Poem circa 2019 🌈

There were no vibrant shades or hues

No tones but black and white

She couldn’t see the colour

That would lighten up her life

She couldn’t see the rainbow

So she went and bought some paint

She started painting through the night

Wild and free without constraint

When the morning sun came up

The walls were no longer white

All the colours of the rainbow

Were now everywhere in sight

She painted every wall

Until her world was filled with colour

Each brushstroke what she needed

To help heal and to recover

Red, yellow, pink and green

Purple and orange and blue

You all know how the song goes

But now she can sing it too

Her heart was truly happy

When she looked at what she’d done

The war inside her tired mind

Was now well and truly won

The pot of gold was waiting

She could see it at the end

The well deserved reward

For the soul she worked to mend

Swipe to see the inspo!

So often we put off doing something we want to do because we know we’ll be bad/not immediately amazing at it… at first. Maybe we’ve never done it before, maybe we haven’t done it in a long time. We know it takes time and practice to get good at something. So we never start, and we also never get better, because we never start.

…but what if you did? How much progress could you make?

Drawing is one of those things for me. Growing up I used to draw a lot - the art (and photography of course) room at school was where I spent most of my time. Flash forward to adulthood, and it’s very rare to find me sitting down with pencils in hand. Most of the time the pencils sit unused in my cupboard.

When I do put them to use I feel a sense of calm wash over me. I lose track of time and become immersed in a world of colour.

This drawing was the first I’d done in a long time. I’m thinking of doing a 30 Day Drawing Challenge, to see how much I can improve in 30 days. What is something you’d like to do more of but need to push past the discomfort of learning (or re-learning) and practicing for a while?

Went for a run at the lake today. Not for exercise (although I sure got my heart-rate up!) , I was chasing the sunset! Sunsets are my new favourite thing. 👌 ☀️ Apparently they happen every day who knew! 🤷‍♀️

People come to modelling for different reasons.

Maybe they’ve just retired and are looking for a new challenge now that they have the time. Maybe they have a very serious day job and are looking for something fun to do on the weekends. Maybe they’ve always wanted to give it a try and they’ve finally bitten the bullet and taken that first step. Maybe they’ve been told by others they’d be good at it. Maybe they stopped listening to the voices in their head telling them they couldn’t.

No matter what your situation or motivation, I’m here to support you. I know you’ve likely never done a professional modelling shoot before, and my aim is to make the process as easy as possible.

If you’re interested has been peaked and you’re curious to know more, visit my website (link in bio of course) to browse and get a taste for what the experience would be like.

Oh, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions. 🙂

Love, Emily

To see something with fresh eyes is as if to see it for the first time.

Although I’ve travelled a lot, I’ve lived in Canberra my whole life, and I go through phases where I like it, then I’m indifferent, then I like it again.

Recently I’ve been making an effort to visit places in Canberra I haven’t been to in a long time, often since I was a kid, and it’s been amazing! We actually have so much to see and do here and it’s re-lighting my love for this city I currently call home.

What should I add to my Canberra ‘Tourist In Your Own Town’ list?

~ OCD Doesn’t Live Here ~

I close my eyes and remember. I was so scared.

…but…

OCD isn’t a big part of me anymore
OCD doesn’t stop me from doing things
OCD doesn’t control me
OCD doesn’t speak so loud
OCD doesn’t live here

She visits occasionally, but I tell her she’s not welcome.

Want to know something?

Location scouting doesn’t always work out how I’d hoped. I’d spotted this old church in ruins on the way back from Sydney ages ago, and thought it would be a cool location for a shoot.

When I finally returned to scope it out properly, I had to cross a cemetery and jump two fences just to get there (that wasn’t me, that was Patricia 😉).

I soon discovered it wouldn’t be a suitable location to bring a model for a photoshoot. It was surrounded by long grass, so snakes would be a concern, there were numerous droppings on the ground, and as I mentioned it wasn’t exactly easy to get to. But it still made for a cool moody photo by itself!

I’m always on the lookout for awesome new locations, so even though this one didn’t work out, I’ll keep looking!

Have you spotted any cool locations lately? 🤔

Can I tell you something?
The post-holiday blues are hitting me hard today after an amazing weekend away! Are you feeling it too?? Apparently it’s completely normal to feel this way after a holiday. It’s your body’s way of trying to ‘normalise’ our mood after a big big adrenaline rush high, except it accidentally overcompensates and goes too far the other way, and so we feel blue. The good news? The post-holiday blues don’t last long! Oh and booking your next trip never hurts 😜 Tell me in the comments, where are you going next? ✈️

Buckle up for a long story! 😅 Here goes…

Fitness used to be a big part of my life - I was a long distance runner and regularly attended community Live Life Get Active classes at the park near my house. Some of my favourite classes were boxing and cross training. I loved it. I trained to be a Zumba instructor (with none other than Mr. Zumba aka Beto himself), was doing some shadow teaching with an amazing mentor and had just been hired at a local gym as a group fitness instructor.

However a spanner was thrown in the works when the pandemic lockdowns happened and my new job opportunity ceased to exist. I spent my lockdowns doing online Zumba classes and learning how to do headstands… might I add with a lot of trial and error and awkward falling - I still have a hole in the living room wall from when my right butt cheek went through it accidentally… oops! I did eventually get up to holding a headstand for over a minute though which I was pretty happy about.

Then one day I ran into a fridge (10/10 don’t recommend!), and this was oddly enough to badly injure my shoulder. With not being able to exercise using my upper body (and with a few other back and lower body injuries thrown in the mix too), exercise became non-existent in my life.

After a long wait (as elective surgeries were postponed due to the pandemic) I finally got my shoulder surgery in October last year. I’ve been patient, impatient and patient again throughout my 8 month recovery process, with a few bumps along the way and still a way to go. I’m proud to say I’ve been relatively consistent with doing my physio exercises, with my motivation being that I never want to not be able to lift weights and do yoga again! At the start of this year I joined the gym and worked towards strengthening my shoulder enough that I could do a Body Pump and Body Balance class. I did both these classes recently and was so incredibly relieved that my shoulder managed to hold up well. Prior to this I honestly didn’t know if I would ever be able to exercise using my upper body again.

My aim now is to get back to doing headstands. Because my wall won’t put holes in itself 😉
