Gladiolus on mass at the flower market in Saigon.
Usually they are sold without the bulb attached. I always leave my bulbs in the ground and cut as far down the stem as possible so that the bulb can reflowerthe following year and have pups.

These pics were taken in flower market street which was so hectic with motorcycles and trucks and pedestrians. Sometimes hard to move at all. The shots at the end show the waste and rubbish, nothing to be recycled, just all dumped in together or left as an acceptable mess.

Flower street in Saigon during a sale was a highlight of my trip. Super scary though since it was packed with people and motorbikes all in a narrow alleyway. They offen never get off their bikes, just rock up to the store, point and buy/ haggle and then zoom off to the next.
I’ll be posting a lot more pics taken in this area. Those of you interested in floristry and the industry as a whole will find in very interesting.

Walking down a street in Hanoi, seeing many florists working on the pavement making beautiful funeral wreaths.
Sadly all with florist foam and I doubt they understand how to handle it safely and how bad it is for the environment and potentially them. At the end of the street was this funeral car and the driver proudly showed us photos of how they do funerals. Beautiful and sad.

The streets are full of motorcycles carting kumquat trees ready for the New Year celebrations. The doorways to temples have them too. They look so abundantly lush, so I couldn’t resist checking out the soil and was surprised to see how the tree itself is anchored in the pot and that the soil looks very much like cement. Apparently lots of sand and mud and fertiliser…..and you definitely can’t eat them!

The flower arrangement I made while teaching at Floriade.
While I had to buy these they are flowers that you can grow on your garden.
What I love the most is the Geraldton Wax Flowers. These are a Western Australia wild flower and have a divine smell, as well as being a great filler flower.
I did buy a packet of seeds and will try growing them in a pot as they don’t really grow on the eastern side of Australia.
