Do you remember Shrek the Sheep? Well 20 years ago he was big news in NZ when he was found after evading the shears for 6 years by hiding in a cave away from his flock. He was finally shorn on national TV and enough wool came off him to make 10 large men’s suits. Shrek went on to meet then NZ prime minister Helen Clark to celebrate his 10th birthday.
This weeks show has very little to do with sheep but a lot to do with the excellent music that was made or released in 2004.
Do you have a standout track or artist from 2004?
Tune in from 5-7 Friday night and relive the sounds of 20 years ago on @94.9mainfm

This week we skip back in time 40 years to the year 1984 for a sample of the music of the day. Prince, Tina Turner, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper dominated the charts, The Boss released born in the USA, Wham made an impact and Queen were making some quality film clips! We will explore some of the big bangers and try to uncover some lesser known gems as well.

What’s your favourite song from 1984?

What’s Golden is jumping in the DeLorean this week and heading back 40 years ago to a time before streaming, before CDs to a time when vinyl was still king. It turns out 1984 was a pretty massive year for pop music. Tina Turner made her comeback at 44, Prince starred in the movie and released the album Purple Rain, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper battled it out and Wham made a splash too. And that’s just some of the big ones! The photo shows some bits and pieces I could find in my record collection from 1984.

Lots to choose from so what do you think we should play?

Our special guest this week is amazing local singer songwriter Jesse Lawrance who has just released a great new album titled Some Little Town. Jesse will be launching the album on October 12 at the Lomond Hotel in Melbourne and then locally at the Coolroom here in Castlemaine on October 18.
To tie in with the album our show will have a ‘little towns’ theme with music from Ireland, the US and plenty of local fare. Artists include and more.
We’d love to hear from you if you have@any small town stories to share or maybe a favorite song about small towns.
