With flowering kicking off and some challenging weather keeping the vineyard team on their toes, the cellar team is deep in assessment mode. We’re running the ruler over our Cabernet Sauvignon barrels today—checking evolution, structure, and fruit profile.

Great wine is made in the vineyard, but it’s raised in the cellar.

"It's all about the dirt."

That's the guiding principle for our Senior Viticulturist, Steve Faulkner. And we're incredibly proud that his soil-first, sustainable approach to growing the best grapes has been recognised at the highest level.

Please join us in congratulating Steve, who was just named the 2025 ASVO Viticulturist of the Year! 🏆🍇

For over a decade, Steve has been at the forefront of biological farming and chemical reduction. But his leadership goes further. He's also a leading voice in biosecurity, developing practical blueprints for managing complex issues like phylloxera—protecting our vines and the entire Yarra Valley.

This spirit of generosity is core to who Steve is. He’s always been the first to share his knowledge, founding , serving as a board member for Wine Yarra Valley, and mentoring for Wine Communicators of Australia.

Reflecting on what started as "a casual job that has turned into 21 vintages," Steve puts this community focus perfectly: "We all learn from someone. It’s really important to remember those people... So let’s do more of that."

Our Chief Winemaker, Dave Bicknell, couldn't agree more: "This is such a great achievement for Steve personally. We're all proud as punch for him. He not only thinks deeply about how and why he does things but he's a great teacher with that rare ability to bring people together and for them to become part of a greater viticultural journey."

We are lucky to have him. Well done, Steve!

Continuing a legacy of excellence, we were honoured to take home the Champion Victorian Winery award at the Melbourne Royal Wine Awards last Friday — a title our winery has now proudly earned three times in the last four years.

Since its inception in 1883, the Melbourne Royal Wine Awards have evolved into one of Australia's oldest and most respected wine shows, now attracting over 2,500 entries from 400 wineries across the nation.

We were also very pleased for being awarded Gold medals in two different classes for some our Chardonnays:

- Best Chardonnay (Chardonnay 2024):

Vineyard Series Henk Chardonnay 2024 | 95 | Gold |

Vineyard Series Willowlake Chardonnay 2024 | 95 | Gold |

- Best Chardonnay ( 2023 & Older):

📣 Great news! We are so excited to announce that our 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 𝟖𝟔𝟒 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 & 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐲 has been selected for the Halliday Top 100 Wines for 2025, in the 'white wines over $40' category.

As one of the most anticipated lists of the year, the Top 100 is a true celebration of Australian wine's breadth and quality.

"From the Funder & Diamond vineyard, planted in Wandin East in '90. The '22 is the reigning Halliday Wine of the Year and this is, as you'd suspect, a worthy successor. With its bouquet of white nectarine, pink grapefruit and traces of sea spray and piercing, perfectly structured palate, this is more tightly coiled, at this stage, than the 864 Henk Chardonnay.
