Marking a 99 Year Milestone!
This past weekend afforded me the very rare and distinct pleasure of presenting a Celebration of Life for and in honour of local resident June Stewart who has just turned 99 years of age!
June’s family and friends gathered at her home on Russell Island to recall her contribution to their lives, and to celebrant in style, her journey to this moment in time.
The occasion afforded June the opportunity to recall special memories, to relive the pleasure of certain events, to reawaken her sense of belonging, and to know how very much her contributions have been, and still are, valued by those whose lives she has touched in both big and small ways.
The effort in compiling the ceremony, brought home to me, once again, the very real need - and worth - of gathering this type of information while the person at the heart of the story is still able to contribute in a meaningful way, with far greater accuracy, and personal view-point, to portray what is essentially “their story” as seen and experienced by them.
This Celebration of Life was in itself, a gift to June from those who consider her presence in their lives as something worthy of sharing!
