Another great year it seems for Numbats surviving at Dryandra National Park, we have also installed new Blue 30 Litre recycling bins at each cottage to encourage collecting 10c cans and bottles for fundraising, for your Numbat research, cheers, Les.

SURVEY RESULTS NOT TOO SHABBY!

On Thursday we finished assisting Dr Tony Friend with his 2024 November numbat drive survey in Dryandra Woodland NP. The survey involves driving a fixed transect 6 times through all habitat types in Dryandra counting sightings to give an indication of the numbat population and what habitat types they are using. This year we had a total of 25 sightings over the 6 survey circuits (388km total), this works out to 1 numbat sighted every 15.52km driven or 6.44 sightings per 100km. The last six November survey results in Dryandra, have been, 2019-10, 2020-35, 2021-24, 2022-39, 2023-28 and now 25. Considering the population was estimated to be just 50 individuals in 2014 this shows our WA fauna emblem is doing pretty well at present in the Woodland.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government, PHCC, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel, and the Foundation for Australia's Most Endangered Species Ltd, the Numbat Task Force would not be able to fund Tonyโ€™s important work without their support. We would also like to thank Lions Dryandra Village for its continued support of the work being done and a special thank you to Roy McFaull for helping with this yearโ€™s survey.
