The town of Dimboola is no stranger to weddings, having been the setting for the play of the same name by Jack Hibberd. Playfully described as vulgar, b***y and boisterous, the play (and the subsequent movie) depict a wedding in which the actors represent the bride, groom and family members. In a fun twist, the audience are the invited guests, greeted by the father of the bride as they enter and take their seats. The cast often serve glasses of sherry and finger food to the audience and even invite some members of the audience to participate in the shenanigans onstage.

In 1979 the Star Theatre Dimboola hosted the world premiere of the movie Dimboola, directed by John Duigan. Can you imagine your wedding in this beautiful, historic venue? It doesn't have to be vulgar, b***y and boisterous. But it can be if you like. 😉

This beautiful, historic building, The Star Theatre Dimboola was built in 1924 and has hosted several events such as dances, art exhibitions, the Dimboola Food Festival, and film screenings including the world premiere of the 1979 movie “Dimboola” directed by John Duigan. And of course several weddings.

These beautiful photos taken of the front and side of the theatre were snapped by local Maren of the local Victoria Hotel. The accommodation at the pub is excellent, as are the rooms which could serve as the perfect base for your wedding party.

Our season of Shuddersome will be performed at the gorgeous STAR THEATRE in Dimboola as part of the official program of the 2023 Wimmera Steampunk Festival! We are so excited to continue our philosophy of collaboration with local artists and entrepreneurs. Remember to book your audition using the EventBrite link. All auditionees are asked to prepared an “up-to-2-minute”interpretation of the Edgar Allan Poe poem 'The Raven' - a copy of the poem will be emailed to you after you book your audition - this could be simply a spoken version of a part of the poem to show your acting ability, or some improvised movement if you are going for a movement/dance role. Here we are at the pointy end of the Covid renovation rush. We are opening for our first event & independent film viewing. This is all part of a wonderful initiative & town festival.
We have had the former custodians of this wonderful space working very hard to repair & restore the floors & stage for opening. We are very thankful to Mary & Ken for their hard graft, project management & planning. Where would we be without great neighbours, talented doers & community minded friends.
