My biggest inspiration in my life was my nan , she was more like a mother to me than my own mother,she taught me everything I know I loved being in the kitchen as a kid baking up a storm we didn't have much when I was a kid my nan had her own 3 boys at home to look after when my junkie mother dumped us on her she never turned us a way she look us in and treated us like her own, with only $ 50 dollars in her pocket she had to plan weekly meals for a house of 12, plus because there was always extras to feed my uncles friends that had been kicked out of the home my nanny was the mum of North Gosford everyone knew her and in some way had been helped by my nan's kindness and never turning away a hungry face she learnt to make the most amazing meal and snacks from scratch, so many of my finger foods , platter ideas ,herb & spice mixes marinated dishes and jams and sweet recipes all came from always being under my nan's feet when she looked I drove her that crazy at dinner times because cooking for 12 u can't be dodging kids under your feet she put a stool just out the kitchen door so I could sit and take notes of what new dish she came up with with what little she had in her cupboard she amazed me there was nothing u could see if looking in the fridge or cupboard but she some how mangers to do it night after night her entire life
She was an amazing nan that I shared with many trouble and lost kids on the coast ,she passed away years ago now but still I think to myself how would nan handle this what would nan do and how would she go about still to this day im so of the lady she was and I try hard to make her proud of me
LOL my nan was even that giving that when the carnival folks use to come to town she used to feel that sorry that there life's where on the road she use to invite them back home for a home cooked meal and a hot shower
She gave so much to this community she really loved the coast and the people we moved her in the 80s when the community
