So we have a bit going on at the minute... As well as trying to get our home ready to sell, we're opening a few Sundays in the next month. That should give us plenty of time to sort the house out!

Starting this Sunday, from 10am - 2pm we will be open for the first day of the Art on the Plains festival so we can showcase the works of Joanna McLean. There's around 20 pieces on the walls around the shop, pop in for a look. We will open again on the final day of the festival, Sunday 8th September again from 10am - 2pm. All the works are for sale.

Also on Sunday 1st September we're having a Laneway Market - not just us this time, we're inviting our neighbours to join us and will have some announcements about who will be here and what our opening times will be in due course.

2 new racks in today, good time to pop back and see what's here. One rack is an eclectic mix, representative of all our wardrobes with a bit of everything, the other is some high end brands of skirts and shoes all priced at $55 each.

News Alert! Sadly, on Friday we said farewell to Mags. After almost 20 years working for Gawler Flower Gallery with it's numerous owners and various locations, Mags has decided it was time for a new adventure.

We'd like to thank Mags for her support and assistance through our 18 months of owning the business - her knowledge was vital during those first few months in particular and her hard work was always appreciated.

We see Mags as part of the family and on a personal level we are sad to see her leave, but we look forward to still seeing her regularly now she's working only 2 doors up the road!

Humans Of Gawler

Byron Stevens - Techme Gawler

Hailing from Stellenbosch in South Africa, Byron came to Australia with his family when he was 3 years old. He attended Angle primary school before moving on to Gawler and District College B-12. Every day he would catch the train from Smithfield to Evanston. Even after school he moved from Munno Para West to Evanston he would walk to work (a good 40 minutes!) to the old Office National on the corner of Lyndoch Road.

"Walking to work was how a lot of people would come to know me......."

During his school time he was very active, but didn't really work too much with IT and computers. His year was one of the first years to get laptops for school as the norm, so they only really had a computer room to do a lot of IT stuff in. Byron ended up at Techme Gawler after the Office National business was sold. Being pretty hands on with customers, sales, and the printing side of things meant that Byron would fit right in. He now specialises as a technician fixing every ones phones, tablets and I-Pads etc... It's stressful work, but he really does enjoy it. Its very satisfying fixing someone's phone when they hold some precious memories on it.

Outside of work he loves playing tennis and basketball and catching up with friends, but one of his favourite past-times is Parkour. Have you ever heard of Parkour? Its described as:

".... an athletic training discipline or sport in which practitioners (called traceurs) attempt to get from one point to another in the fastest and most efficient way possible, without assisting equipment and often while performing feats of acrobatics. With roots in military obstacle course training and martial arts, parkour includes flipping, running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, plyometrics, rolling, and quadrupedal movement—whatever is suitable for a given situation."

So you can imagine lots of scaling walls, jumping over walls, gaps, fences, and Parkour itself can date back to the early 1900's. He does a lot of it in Adelaide because you can imagine a more urban environment is best suited to the sport. There can be a stigma attache to Parkour that includes vandalism and trespassing, but Byron is quick to point out that his style of Parkour is done strictly for fun, exercise and training. It all started one day at high school watching one of his friends vault over a railing. Being pretty intrigued, he asked his friend what he was doing and after a brief explanation he was off and practicing it himself. Its an all over body workout.

"I do believe taking time to really challenge yourself with something that is uncomfortable can be a truly great experience."

Byron loves trying new and weird challenges. Recently he was testing out the carnivore diet. Ever heard of it? The carnivore diet is where you only eat animal products e.g. all kinds of meat, seafood, eggs, dairy etc, with the main reason for doing so to see if you experience any of the reported health benefits many people claim such as increased energy, mood, mental clarity and focus. He wanted to try it out to see if he had the discipline and mental fortitude to stick with something as monotonous and boring as eating only carnivore foods. After having done it for over 6 months it's definitely a challenging diet, and he's certainly felt the benefits in everyday life and is extremely glad he decided to give it a go!

It's not for everyone, nor does he necessarily recommend it, but he's taking a month off carnivore at the moment, but does plan to go back on it very soon as the benefits are well worth it..... in his opinion.

Hey all! With the weather and public holidays, we're doing things a little different this week.
Firsty, with the extreme heat tomorrow, we're closing at 3pm. Any deliveries we have to get done will get done, but we will not be leaving any flowers behind, if recipients are not home we will take the flowers back to our cool room and make alternative delivery arrangements.
Wednesday and Thursday will be our normal hours, though Alpaccinos Cafe will be open until 5pm so you can grab an iced coffe, milkshake or smoothie to cool off.
We will close for the Australia Day public holiday as well as Saturday morning so we can have a breather before the year really kicks off for us with Valentines Day just around the corner!
