Today I said “I’m fine”, not once
But five times altogether
When people asked “how are you?”
Then made small talk of the weather

And so I hid behind my mask
The one I’d worn a while
I set in place my bravest face
And dressed it with a smile

And that was how the day went
All “I’m fine” and talk of rain
Until somebody asked me how I was
Then asked again

They asked if I was truly fine
And I said I was not
And they said they were sorry
That they couldn’t do a lot

But then they sat beside me
Whilst I spoke the truth at last
They listened and they held me
As the tears slipped through my mask

And where before, I’d felt I should
Maintain this brave façade,
I realised there was much to gain
By letting down my guard

See, though my load was still the same
It now was not as heavy
‘Cause sitting and offloading it
Had helped a bit already

Today they asked “how are you?”
And I told them I was fine
‘Til someone saw behind the mask
And asked me one more time

And though they may have felt
That there was little they could do
They’ll never know how much it meant
To tell someone the truth

We have some exciting news! The Gawler Civic Centre Café will be back in operation from next Monday 12 August! ☕

The café will be run as a joint venture between Barossa Valley Chocolate Company and local business Divine Dining on a three-month term providing a much-needed service to the space.

Barossa Valley Chocolate Company will operate Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, offering their signature hot chocolates, award winning house-made gelati, selection of hot and cold lunch items, cakes and treats, coffee from Bean Addiction, as well as a small selection of their handcrafted chocolates. 🍫

Divine Dining Pop Up will operate on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, offering homemade cakes, muffins, cookies, Devonshire teas, light lunches, and warming soups. Coffee will be provided by Bean Addiction, along with Twining’s teas, winter-warming hot chocolates, and ice cream. 🍰

We are so excited to have these wonderful businesses on board and hope the community get behind them during this time!

FIG FRENZY BEGINS
Despite our peculiar weather this year, figs have arrived on time. You’ll have to be quick to snare a punnet of the little beauties. With their rich history dating back 6000 years, figs are a classical fruit in the Mediterranean diet, possessing BIOACTIVE COMPONENTS, including flavonoids, phenolics and carotenoids that characterise traditional medicine.
Our lead variety, EARLY ABUNDANCE has distinguished itself by having already provided its ‘Breba’ crop before Christmas and is now leading the charge with its ‘Hijas’ (main) crop. Some 16 varieties will come and go between now and May, each with its own flavour, shape and colour.

They will all offer excellent nutritional value, with iron, potassium and calcium in abundance and low GI sugar for an energy boost.
They are fabulous barbequed in addition to their roles in desserts, jams, salads, and as dried snacks dried, SO GET FIGS INTO YOUR DIET!

We’ll also be selling fig trees so you can grow your own. See you at the ADELAIDE FARMERS MARKET this Sunday 28 Jan from 8.30-12.30

Wow what a busy July!!
We had a large celebration for a special lady turning 100...a few Christmas in July lunches.
A day honouring the good work locals do to make the Gawler show happen.
We had a lesson with the youth space making sushi which they did very well!!
20th Anniversary for the GRSC group..Gawler peeps that love their cars and the Sanctuary's hair and beauty salon 25th anniversary..And of course meals flying out as usual on a Friday and corporate meals through the week.
So appreciate all my lovely friends how are customers...looking forward to spring and those longer days and more time with our loved ones!!🌅🍹🍴🍷

Have you heard about South Australia's History Festival ?This year's theme is "reimagine" and we are doing exactly that - hosting a series of events where we reimagine our regional history as defined by the women, rather than the men. Called 'Herstory' our three events in May explore the secrets hidden between the covers of the Barossa Cookery Book and tell the stories of the women who created this incredible little volume, and in turn, built our community. The stories and sparkling recipe gems in this historic artefact are truly fascinating and we can’t wait to take you on a journey back to 1917 Barossa! And we can assure you it’s not all sweet baked treats and afternoon tea parties - there are some pretty dark social expectations combined with some heartbreaking life stories...... because when all is said and done, it’s never 'just' a recipe book.
Interested? we'd love to have you join us for one, two or all three of our sessions. Hosted at Barossa Regional Gallery in Tanunda, we will be working from the very building the cookbook raised funds to establish. More information and tickets available via the link below.
