We’re excited to introduce this year’s Roving Entertainment at the Yaralla Gladstone Harbour Festival. 🎉🎡

Curbside Carnies is a mobile circus project created during the heavy lockdowns in Victoria, as a way to provide contactless, Covid-safe circus experiences to the people of Melbourne and beyond. As soon as the lockdowns were lifted, they were pushing their small portable stage onto the streets, giving free pop-up entertainment from Mount Alexander to Moonee Valley – funded entirely by grants from councils in and around Melbourne.

The project now provides regular circus entertainment and curated programs around Australia – from Darwin to Melbourne – and continues to work with community organisations and councils in using circus arts to improve mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. Curation commonly includes roving performance, workshops, circus play spaces and pop-up shows.

Projects regularly engage priority groups such as at-risk youth, refugee and Indigenous background children, lower socioeconomic communities, people living with disability and senior citizens. Producer Sophie deLightful now has an extensive network of facilitators and performers who have experience in these fields, and can offer programs and entertainment that have immediate effect and lasting impact.
