Hello internet friends. I wanted to introduce myself officially. I'm Cat and I'm a little obsessed with waste management ♻️ 👋
Luckily for me decided to step away from full time work life, and he handed me the reigns of his creation 💃🌱 one year ago.

I've had an interesting journey through my work life from travelling the globe on cruise ships as a massage therapist,
(I could tell you some of the most horrific stories on waste management during this time!) Hospitality around Australia and teaching in primary schools and early years. Sustainability and environmental education is a core interest of mine, and I get to stretch a bit doing this with and

Now, these seemingly unconnected roles have seamlessly blended together into my role here. I get to work with all kinds of good people who are working together to make this Earth a cleaner and safer place for today and future generations.

I'd love to connect with others who are on the global sustainability mission and collaborate on just how we can level up. Let's team up and show by example on just what actions we can do to leave this crazy place better than how we found it 😉🌱♻️✨️🌊

We recently received the news that we are now officially the "Best Sustainable Event Management Agency-Queensland"

So stoked! This shows a change in attitude to how waste is managed during events and that by investing in waste management during your event, positive change can happen.

They also wrote a sweet article about what we do which can be accessed below.

I'd like to thank all the wonderful educators who work with us on the waste stations, as well as all the amazing events that can see the value in engaging us to help reduce their landfill impact.

Who is keen to come and have the best long weekend ever with us at Bluesfest on the Easter long weekend? 🤘💚♻️
Requirements:
• 18 years and over.
• Decent work ethic and reliable.
• Available for all 5 days, Thursday 6th - Monday 10th of April 2023 for a rotation of 5-hour shifts. Shifts are morning, day x2, evening, and “graveyard” (graveyard is a shorter shift)
• Own camping set up and gumboots. (Also, helps to bring your own water bottle, there is water on site to refill your bottle as needed)
Looking for amazing humans who can volunteer on the sorting tray.
In return you get
• Access to Bluesfest for the duration of the festival including convenient workers' access points. (Skip those big crowds and get a great spot to watch the artists!)
• Complimentary access to sustainability teams' campgrounds. (first in best dressed)

Loving these results we are achieving at The Village Markets thanks Eco Angel Murray Morris for your dedication to our system.

55.00kg of front-of-house waste was generated at TVM on 6 June, where 95% of resource (52.00kg) was diverted from landfill, with only 3.00kg going to landfill. Also 55 eligible containers were collected and donated to Surfrider Foundation.

Approximately 35kg of back-of-house organic resource was fed to the industrial worm farm and 45.00kg's (5 x 240 Lt bags) of compostable resource were introduced into the compost system at Southern Beaches Community Garden.

In 2019 only 7% of waste went to landfill! 7%!!!
We will be providing free water stations around the festival thanks to City of Gold Coast

ANZAC Day at Currumbin RSL is all about remembrance for those service women and men who did not return to us.

And as Australians do, we shed a few tears, had a few beers and got swept up in the atmosphere of Two Up. Well the patrons did, our Eco Angels of course were concentrating on diverting as much waste as possible to resource. Results coming soon.

BEWARE...GREENWASHING, it can be costly for reputations and your wallet!

According to Wikipedia Greenwashing is a form of marketing spin in which green PR (green values) and green marketing are deceptively used to persuade the public that an organisation's products, aims and policies are environmentally friendly.

As far as we are concerned this should be a punishable offence but there are many companies out there who are deceiving us.

With the impending Queensland governments ban on single use plastic, companies will try and fly under the radar to unload their stocks of toxic plastic products, so BEWARE!

Even our good friends who are staunch environmentalists were deceived by this product, not everything with a green leaf is gold, you must read the fine print.

WOOHOO...QLD Parliament bans Plastics (10 march 2021)

key points:
unanimous support from Parliament-every party supported
plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, plates and bowls and expanded polystyrene cups and containers (clam shells) to be banned
ban to start on 1 September 2021
these items are most littered in QLD with report estimating over 30% of all litter is plastic packaging
avoiding use is best practice and when not possible, reusable or certified compostable products (aust standard only) are allowed alternatives
many major retailers already acting
QLD will be second state to introduce a ban-with a more extensive list than South Australia
govt has signalled that the second tranche of products will now be investigated this includes coffee cups/lids and other problem takeaway plastics
ban is supported by major hospitality and retail sectors, (packaging industry) disability sector and enjoys wide public and cafe sector support

Our Eco Angel, Murray is ecstatic with last Sunday's results at

38.43kg of front-of-house waste was generated at TVM on 21 Feb, where 90% of waste (34.45kg) was diverted with only 3.98kg going to landfill. And 174 containers were collected and donated to through Cash for Containers. 

And an additional 2.91kg of back-of-house landfill was generated and approximately 30kg of organic waste was fed to the Southern Beaches Community Garden's worms, mmmm yum.

The new signage developed by The Village Markets made a noticeable difference to our results.
