I was in the process of throwing out one of my broken wedding umbrellas and gave it to the kids to play with, because they have to investigate everything. Nash then asked me if I can make it rain so he can hide under it. I said, ok, but let me grab my camera.
The next few minutes were hilarious, JJ didn’t know what was happening, he was just busy eating his watermelon, then cracked it when dad missed with the hose and tricked some water down his back. 🤣 (insert the crying photo) then we swapped him out for the dog, but she ran a mile when she saw the hose. Nash said - “Just take photos of me mum”, and so I did. #thursdayafternoons

Dads, this one is for YOU!!!
I always have dads feeling awkward (this is SO normal) and always ask - “what do I do with my hands?”
My advice! Don’t let them hang down. Don’t leave gaps! You have the biggest and strongest arms in the family, use them to wrap, cuddle, throw, spin, twirl and hold your people. Nuzzle your kids, kiss them, tickle them. It’s that easy. You’ve got this Dad.

My advice to parents, not only as a photographer but as a parent myself: let go of expectations that your kids will be “good” for their photoshoot and sit still and smile.
Let them be kids, let them run, explore, play and discover. And the secret to getting the absolute BEST photos out of your session?
Do it with them! Play, run, explore. Discover. Hug them, tickle them, and just be with each other. Soak up their childhood glory. Watch as the most genuine smiles unfold. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be there to play, cheer on and softly guide, you’ll be amazed at what we can create. Even on a stormy windy day 😉
