On the 8th of December 2021, we launch the ‘You Choose’, Youth Road Safety program on the Northern Gold Coast for community leaders and youth drivers.

This is a subject close to my heart, as a father and a grandfather who lives and works in the Northern Gold Coast, the fastest growing region in Queensland, with 40% of our population under 25 years of age.

Here on the Northern Gold Coast, we have 22 schools with around 19,500 students.

As well, statistics show that three quarters of our households have more than 2 cars, with a quarter of households having 3 or more.

Clearly, we are an electorate that drives and with our young people making up more and more of our drivers, we need an enhanced level of driver education for our youth.

We know that in 2021, in Queensland, we are on track to have the highest road toll in almost a decade, even surpassing the 2020 road toll of 276 lives lost, which was the highest since 2015.

That is why I’m passionate about this community and passionately support driver education and this program: ‘You Choose’ Youth Road Safety, for our young people.

As you will read on the attached copy of the invitation, this will be a FREE information session for parents and grandparents regarding youth road safety and making the right choices on our roads.
I also encourage you to bring your mid-teens children and/or grand children with you.

Peter and Melissa McGuinness program, “You Choose” Youth Road Safety are the winners of the National Road Safety Award for School Programs, 2021.

Peter and Melissa embarked on a social mission to push for a change in reckless driving behaviour of young drivers, after their son, Jordan, made choices as a driver which cost the lives of four innocent young people in 2012, including his own.

‘You Choose’ Youth Road Safety was established with the purpose of facilitating a youth-led mission to change Australian driving culture, using relatable concepts about Love, Family and the Empowerment of Choice.

Organising a funeral when you have just lost your loved one is incredibly difficult. During this time we will support you in any way that we can as your Celebrants. We will help you to plan a funeral that celebrates and remembers the life of the person that has passed away, weaving together your memories of that person to create a unique and loving ceremony.

We will work closely with you and your chosen funeral director. We can suggest readings, music and other resources but most importantly together we will tailor this day to your needs. As your funeral celebrants we will come to you in the comfort of your own home and together we will put together the ceremony that most befits your loved one in a dignified and respectful manner.

When you lose a loved one it can be a very confusing time, we have a wealth of information and resources to help you through this difficult time. A lot of our work as a Funeral Celebrants takes me to Beaudesert where we have the great privilege of working with Aaron & Kerrie Burkin from Beaudesert Funerals. With over 25 years in the industry these two amazing people provide the region with a genuinely caring, respectful and professional service.
