Have you heard about the changes NESA has proposed for the Music HSC? No externally assessed music performance and other changes to the 11-12 Music syllabus could significantly impact our music classrooms. We couldn't express our concern better than Gunnedah Conservatorium friend and one of Australia’s best concert pianists, Simon Tedeschi, who said the push to reduce significantly performance requirements in the HSC would affect how young people perceived the world.

“It’s no wonder so many of us struggle to think beyond crude binaries or seek validation in ‘likes’ and reality TV when some of those at the top seem allergic and sometimes even resentful towards the idea that art can be transcendent and not just ‘theorised’,” he said.
“Music is academically rigorous, sure, but it’s so much more. It’s social practice, communication, empathy, psychology, spirit, history and style.
“Performing a great piece of music demands the full participation of the human being, the capacity to explore the subtleties that lie beyond percentiles and bell curves.
“Music is not there to be understood like a maths problem; it is experienced, and this can only happen through the alchemical magic that is performance.”

What a great night with the Hot Potato Band! Thanks to St Mary's College, Gunnedah - Official music teacher Emma Turner for the vision - We were pleased to be able to add workshops and concerts at Gunnedah South Public School Gunnedah Public School as well as community events in addition to sponsoring travel and accommodation for the program. Working on future plans!

Lovely day in the park celebrating NAIDOC week with Gunnedah Naidoc Committee Red Chief Local Aboriginal Land Council and the community. We were so pleased to be involved in today and loved bringing Dyagula and Jack Hickey https://www.instagram.com/i.amjack?igsh=MWQ4ZXJkMHUxa2VqcA== back to Gunnedah to perform throughout the afternoon.
