January 2025 !
Boy, what a month!

I am starting to learn how to graft trees (white and variegated jacarandas and gum trees) which is so amazing and exciting.
So far 4 from 5 grafted trees are doing fine, and I love my brand new work outfit from Tom Grady Country Clothing & Workwear in Gympie. A far cry from my previous work clothes working in IT. 😁

The amazing plant poles we have in the studio are a hit with customers and… we have the plants and hanging pots for them too. (Only 2 white plant poles left, if you are interested, no screws needed).

The plant shaker broke his hip and had to stop shaking anything for the last weeks but… he is nearly back to normal. Yay! Thank you everyone for the lovely comments and best wishes for him!

The studio is full of amazing plants and we are trying to offer more cuttings and other bargains in the future. One massive variegated Monstera borsigiana cutting is currently available (75$) before we are starting our offer newsletter.
Of course, we still have the full amazing plants in pots ( one crazy offer right now is var. Monstera borsigianas, Albos, reduced to $150!).

We were part of the unbelievable inflorescence of the Amorphophallus titan. Such a privilege to see and smell one at Odd Spot Plants . 👏

And lastly, I won an award for creativity by the Regional Council in Gympie for my moss walls.

Gee, we can do with a bit less excitement in February.

This absolutely wonderful event is coming again to Gympie in July!
It offers tons of super interesting crafts, from quilting to black smithing!

Plant friends! Cuttings and plant sale!🤩👏💚
We are cleaning some massive greenhouses and I just have to take some plants and cuttings of lovely, variegated, rare and healthy plants.

My idea is to offer them for sale for a super price.
Not quite sure how to go about this yet but I thought I create a list with names of who would be interested and keep the people on that list updated on what is available when.

We won’t have the time to help with care, potting, repotting, and putting them on a totem though.
Plants need to be picked up at the studio in the afternoons, cash only.

Send me your first name and email and I will put the list together!

The plants below are just a few examples , there will be more and different plants available.

Well, that is a first for me! 🤩🤩🤩🤩My large Albo has a half moon leaf and is having a variegated flower/fruit.
How amazing. 👏

What a week this has been!
We are very sorry that we were out of action here. But we are back now. Send us a quick text if you like to come by.

It turned out that the ‘plant shaker’s’ small accident was a broken hip which ended him in hospital. 🫣
But… he is ok and back home now. Phew!

At the same time the amazing Amorphophallus titanum ( co**se flower) decided to open up the inflorescence.

There are only a few thousands left in the wild so this was such a special event to experience at Odd Spot Plants. Many videos of the whole process on their page.

The inflorescence reached 2.2m and the colour of the ‘skirt’ on the inside had the most amazing burgundy, purple tones.
The ‘scent’ (stench of rotten flesh) got more and more intense but in pulses. Fascinating that a plant can decide when it stinks and when to hold it. 😂
There were even flesh eating beetles coming out of nowhere to feast on the flowers.
The thermal images from deep inside looked like a lava flow. Crazy beautiful.
Of course, Neil tried to spread pollen onto the female flowers. 😁👏 Let’s see if there will be baby bulbs one day!
He collected pollen from this plant too for other growers.
I loved to see the close up photo of the female flowers. These are the ones with the pink dot, dark, little stem and yellow head. How cool are these?

The skirt and long stinky part are now off and the plant can put all the energy into , hopefully making baby bulbs.

Just wow and cudos to Lisa and Neil to pull this off! There are not many of these in Australia or even the world.
We do have crazy amazing things here in Gympie!
