Another interesting artist from the Kool Skools Alumni is Amaya Laucirica, her voice captured our attention from our SA Kool Skools project and she performed live and won awards at the Governor Hindmarsh Awards show that year for "He's So Strange". We even signed her to our label at the time but unfortunately it didn't work out and she moved to Sydney at the time. Appearing Live at the Gasometer tomorrow night. I would have been ten years old when this was filmed. It was just so lucky for me on our first songwriting occasion, that my great friend and business partner of almost 40 years now, Trevor Carter, introduced me to the music of Steely Dan. Of course I knew the major singles like Rikki Don't Lose that Number and Hey Nineteen but that songwriting session we didn't do a lot of writing because we spent the whole time listening to all the great records from the Dan that Trevor had in his collection. Like many, particularly in the music world, i consider their music to be some of the best ever written and recorded. And thank god that home recording wasn't a thing then because they made all these records tirelessly with the best session musicians in the world, in the top studios like the Village in LA and spent unlimited amounts of time crafting and producing masterpieces that may never be surpassed. Not a note played by a computer or cut and pasted from a 2nd rate take, every single note and sound was meticulously laboured over until it was a work of art, not just a live performance.
