Over 200 men, women and children attending ‘Check Your Engine Light’ last night, were encouraged that showing kindness and even just a smile, can change the course of someone’s day and you may never know the impact it may make on them living or not!
That was a message from keynote speaker .bonney OAM whose catch cry is “What does it feel like, to be you today?”
Speaking raw and authentically about men’s health & wellness, both mental and physical, Rae addressed the issues currently experienced in our community around su***de, depression and the trend of slow su***de assisted by the abuse of drugs and alcohol. As someone who experiences daily thoughts of su***de and depression, she addressed issues of daily stress, domestic violence towards men (& women), financial and relationship breakdowns and the very real need to keep the lines of communication open. Changing one’s own attitude and responses.
Stop and listen to a friend, really listen. Time is precious to them and it’s the greatest gift we can give along with a smile or an act of kindness 😊
from Warracknabeal, shared his personal journey and his daily challenge to keep on top of his health. Four years ago he developed .farmers where up to 20 or so blokes go for a walk and return to sit around for a chat. These small initiatives can make a huge difference when someone is silently suffering in a world of unseen pain.
Justin has coined the phrase, “Depression Hates a Moving Target” and this is his encouragement to men out there, to take up regular exercise, join a group or create a group to encourage conversations which may not normally have a chance to get any air time.
Hosting this event was local bloke on behalf of WACK (Wimmera Against Cancer in Kids) who’s going to lose his 20 year old beard for the Movember initiative. Simon says not only do you need to look out for your mates but you need to look out for yourself as well and be honest!
Helping to make this event possible was the sausage sizzle crew; Horsham Rotary Club, Bolly's Bakehouse and along with the , NG Lions, ACE Radio, The Weekly Advertiser & our staff.
