You don’t have to ski or be intrepid to discover the beauty of the Australian Alps. This winter on Mount Hotham, Alpine Nature Experience will offer a new and unique experience: spending an exclusive and adventurous night in the snow. Founder Jean-Francois Rupp will take you on an evening snowshoe adventure through the snow gums to reach his hidden eco-village and central tipi, before sharing some

French cooking tips and assisting guests prepare their own French cheese fondue. Mr Rupp hopes to attract first timers to the snow, families, seminars and school groups. Hailing from the heart of the French alps, Jean-Francois has always wanted to encourage others to discover the beauty of the mountains and experience the snow. Since relocating to Australia in late 2014, he has been looking for the chance to share his passion for the outdoors and alpine activities. “At first I was sceptical of the term “Alps” in Australia, but I love the mountains here, they are more accessible than in France and have an untouched feeling to them”. Mount Hotham was a clear standout for his project due to the striking beauty of the mountain, snow reliability and overall atmosphere.

“For me the snow is about much more than skiing, it’s about the beauty of the scenery, the food, and surrounding yourself in nature” he said. Collaborating with Hoys Skis and Zirky’s, Alpine Nature Experience has received a warm welcome from resort management and local businesses who are keen to see their customers catered for in a new way.

Hot tub golden hour...

As part of your overnight stay in our "Premium Hypedome", you get an hour session in our hot tub overlooking Dargo Valley with a bottle of bubbles.

Morning hot tub sessions can be added on to your regular hypedome booking as a special way to start the day.

Our hot tub is limited to 2 adults only.

Camping with a difference:

Looking for a summer escape for a night or two?
We have THREE Hypedomes available for overnight stays that can sleep up to 4 people per dome plus our DUO and TRIO suspended tree tents for extra capacity.

🌳Although fully off the grid, you can enjoy scrumptious meals and locally sourced wines during your stay with us, cooked to perfection in our central wood fired oven in the tipi.

💧Worried about hygiene? We bring in fresh, potable water each day by hand for handwashing and drinking, we have a clean and clever vermicomposting toilet on site at the eco-viallage and we even have a warm camp shower... Everything you need for a few days surrounded by the snowgums.
🛀🏻OR, if you want to treat yourself, you can opt to add a little extra to your stay by adding a hot tub experience to your stay in the evening or the mornning (subject to availability)

😊We also have a range of garden and card games, as well as equipment you can borrow to venture to Dinner Plain for a hit of tennis or some frisbee golf.
Our guests love to set up and play Finska with a fresh beverage in hand around the eco-village.

A fantastic hike experience in Australia’s high country. The hike from Falls Creek to Mt Hotham was for the most part a comfortable stroll and very visually stimulating and at other times a hard slog. Be prepared for some effort especially the incline to Hotham - although not impossible for moderately happy healthy folk. Walking poles will be your friend. Track is easily marked and navigated. JF is an outstanding and knowledgeable host. Thanks mate for everything. The campsites, food offerings and transfers were all perfect. A very memorable experience and would highly recommend.

I could not recommend Alpine Nature Experience more. I went on the three hut walk with a couple of friends in early November 2024 and the whole experience was stunning. JF was our guide and was knowledgeable, friendly and a super host. The food was incredible and we felt safe and supported in his hands despite the (at times howling) wind.

After the day of walking we made it back to the eco village for the night and were blown away again by the attention to detail and the beautiful setting Alpine Nature Experience has created. It was absolutely magical. We enjoyed the delicious local wine selection and the food was superb. We also took the opportunity to soak up the views from the wood-heated hot tub. Highly recommended!

I'm looking forward to going back again.

Why not go that little bit further and drive up the hill for a tranquil nature stay at our secluded eco-village?

Our eco-village is surrounded by nature but has the added bonus of having a hot tub, camp shower, toilets, tree tent / hypedome accommodation, and a host who can cook you up a delicious storm during your stay. With limited availability, you can really feel away from home with no queues in sight!

Garden games at the eco-village; Dinner Plain around the corner with frisbee golf, tennis courts and walks to waterfalls plus a few places to eat; walking tracks in every direction; The Genny up the road for great views and a hearty meal. Why not venture that little bit further next time?
