I recently went to visit The Tiller Farm, Yallingup. A fabulous venue that offers a blank canvas inside, so you create the look you want for your special day.

It’s secluded and peaceful, with a perfect country backdrop.

Sophie and the team, will help create the ceremony you wish for. Sophie has vendor contacts, such as tableware and florals, and can provide great advice for the style you want.

I’m very excited to have recently upgraded my sound equipment and have it ready to go, for some upcoming ceremonies!

It is a wireless systems, with a cord backup. The sound quality is fantastic and is great at not picking up other sounds, which we don’t want during a ceremony!

I will always arrive early and make sure it’s all working well, and set up in time. ⏰

The team at Mega Music Wangara, are very helpful and can inform customers of the best options. Even though it’s a great setup, there won’t be any karaoke from me !!

Over the past few weeks, I have experienced significant grief for many people close to me who have experienced their own loss, and for myself and my family.

As a Clinical Psychologist and Buddhist, I can work through grief, suffering, acceptance of death and the impermanence of life. However, when it is close to home, that takes more work and reflection.

We recently had to say goodbye to our much loved 12 year old staffy, and the next day, hold the Celebration of Life for our much loved friend. Deb had given me the honour of conducting the ceremony for her. She had said, “I only trust you Lis”. 💕

It was estimated about 250 - 300 people attended, which showed how much Deb was loved, a testament to the beautiful person she was, and the support given to the family.

With teamwork between myself as Celebrant, conversations with Deb about what she wanted, the family, and Bowra and O’Dea, it was a real celebration of her life, at the beautiful Pinnaroo Memorial Park, on Monday. Many people said Deb would have been proud, and that’s all I could have wanted.

I appreciate everyone’s support and give thanks to Bowra and O’Dea, for their professionalism and guidance.

Today I went to the beautiful Swan Valley and stopped in at the gorgeous Barrett Lane. Getting ready for the Swan Valley Twilight Wedding Expo, next January.

A truly special place, to have your ceremony and reception. It was wonderful to see the flowers in bloom and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Leanne and her team will take great care of you and ensure your special day, is everything you could ask for. There is also accomodation now available. 💍🥂💖

Elopement or an intimate wedding ?!

With the costs of weddings these days, some people are choosing to have a much smaller but still gorgeous, wedding or other type of ceremony.

Valentines Day is an option to do this and there is still time. At least one month before the wedding date, is needed to sign all the paperwork. So, there is still some time if you feel Valentines Day is the day for you. 💍💕💐

Today I attended a Celebration of Life for a beautiful lady. A wonderful and generous person, who after a long illness, had to leave us too soon. She will be greatly missed. 💕💐

She was such a kind person and loved the natural environment . We all wore colours to represent her love of nature. There were lovely flowers and brightness all around us, which brought a smile to people’s faces during such a hard day.

It is comforting these days, that a funeral can sometimes be conducted more as a celebration and people do not have to wear black. I have attended and officiated many funerals, and it is comforting to see how this type of ceremony has become more personalised.

There is a more collective process with families. It is the way I support families through the process, and to ensure it is respectful and honours loved ones in a way that people need.

It may be a bit confusing for people, what to pay a Celebrant. There aren’t really set fees to pay and is usually up to the Celebrant.

Some Celebrants might under charge but it doesn’t mean, cheap is best. Some charge a huge amount and say they do ‘so many things’, when a lot of what they do, is part of the job anyway. Some only officiate weddings and some do all aspects, including funerals.

A registered Celebrant has completed their qualifications, pay fees and insurance, and then have to make a living out of their career. To be able to pay their bills too, so it’s important not to bargain a price with them. It’s more important you “click”.

The cost depends on the type or style of ceremony. A simple registry style wedding or a beach memorial. How much time is needed for the ceremony, the hours needed to provide you with a thorough and wonderful script.

I completed an advanced course , that included all aspects of Celebrancy. I am also a Clinical Psychologist and Justice of the Peace, which brings an added skill set to this amazing profession. I also plan in advance and fully dedicate my time to you.

So, what are you getting for your hard earned dollars :

✍🏻 all aspects of writing your ceremony script. Providing drafts , a collaborative process of what you’d like included and even a proof read of your personal vows or eulogy.

⏰ countless behind the scenes of hours with helping to organise the ceremony, talking with other professionals involved and making sure it goes smoothly.

🖥️ lodging the paperwork and organising the marriage certificate for you. It can be printed or in calligraphy.

🚙 travelling to locations to meet vendors, checking out locations or organising a rehearsal.

🎤 a PA system may be needed for an outdoor ceremony, and to bring a table and chairs.

👂🏻👄 plenty of listening, understanding, meetings and chatting along the way.

I am a proud member of The Funeral Directory. A very useful resource that provides the community with advice, about a topic that can be distressing.

As a Funeral Celebrant and Clinical Psychologist, I have the skill set to ensure this type of ceremony goes as you had hoped. I can also meet with people who sadly know they do not have much time left, and would like to be involved with making the arrangements.

People are able to choose their own funeral celebrant and do not have to use the celebrant a funeral company allocates to them. Please give me a call or email if I can be of help.

Technology can be very helpful but can also be very intrusive. It can take away from special and important moments during a ceremony.

Couples and families can politely tell their guests, that it is ‘unplugged’.

There are ways to do this:

☎️on your invitations, add a part that states the ceremony is ‘unplugged’.

📜have a sign at the entrance of the ceremony space, that also states this. Three great local businesses I know are:

🧍‍♀️as your Celebrant, even if it’s a funeral, I will politely remind guests to turn off their phones at the beginning of the ceremony.

📸if you have a professional photographer , they will be setting up all the lovely shots and don’t want people’s phones in the way. Beautiful photos can be purchased after the ceremony.

Then it’s peaceful …..🪷
