It was a phenomenal weekend for Koroit at the Norton Ford Warrnambool Junior Seaside Classic Basketball Tournament

We had a Squad of 10 teams competing across every age group and were competitive all weekend, the association is very proud of the hustle, camaraderie, sportsmanship and positive attitude of all the players, managers and coaching staff over the weekend, you represented the association and the town of Koroit so well!

We started the weekend on Friday with our President attending the Wannon Volunteer Awards in Ararat where he was presented with a 2024 Inspiring Individual award from Dan Tehan followed by our Division 1 U18 girls team kicking off the Tournament against Warrnambool Friday evening at the ARC.

Saturday games hosted at Victoria Park saw the U12 Girls first game ending in an exciting 14 all draw against Hamilton and Koroit picked up some wins by both our U14 Boys teams. During the U14 Boys Black 58 to 23 win against Colac at home, Koroit’s Grayer Russell scored a record breaking 38 points in the game (all without shooting a single 3 pointer). Saturday evening at the ARC the U18 Boys Red team took on the Traralgon T-Birds in front of a standing room only crowd in what was a high skilled performance from both teams.

On Sunday the U16 Boys Red team got a win over Colac with our U18 Boys Black also coming out on top against Maryborough. Our U18 Girls Black and Red had a thrilling showdown at Brauer College in an exciting game that ended in a 23 all draw.

Both our U14 Boys sides continued their amazing run with the Red team getting a win against Portland but just missing out on a finals spot by 1%.

Lastly the U14 Black team won three of their four games and lost a hard fought contest against Warrnambool by 3 points. This ensured a top of ladder position and secured a rematch in the Grand Final where they came out on top and won! Grand Final winners at Warrnambool versus Warrnambool.

Overall it was a very successful weekend for the Association as we continue to grow and develop. We were very competitive and most importantly there were plenty of smiling faces wearing the Red, White and Black.

This weekend we are proud to be hosting games for the 2024 Norton Ford Warrnambool Junior Seaside Classic Basketball Tournament.

We will be operating a canteen at the Victoria Park Stadium during game times which will be stocked with Powerade, Soft Drinks, Water, Chips, Chocolate Bars and assorted lollies. For those vsiting Koroit for the first time who are keen for something a little more filling we would like to recommend some exceptional options for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner from the amazing local businesses listed below.

Koroit is a beautiful rural town surrounded by rolling green pastures on the northern slopes of Tower Hill, a long dormant volcano. Situated just a few kilometres north of the Princes Highway and 18 km north-west of Warrnambool. It has a number of significant heritage buildings and pleasant Botanic Gardens. The surrounding agricultural land is known for its potatoes, onions and dairying along with the annual Koroit Irish Festival, Picnic in the Paddock, Koroit Sheepdog Trials, Koroit Agricultural & Pastoral Show and the Koroit Truck Show. It is also home to the Mighty Koroit Saints Sporting Clubs based at Victoria Park.

REMINDER: The first 4 weeks are grading weeks, therefore players are subject to team changes. Player singlets will be given out tomorrow night at the stadium.
Please ensure you get to the stadium at least 10 minutes prior to your game.

Please wear BLACK BASKETBALL SHORTS with NO POCKETS and clean and appropriate footwear for the court. Please bring a water bottle.

The kiosk will be available for select drinks and snacks.

Great kick off to the 2024/25 Squad season with a mini tournament at Emmanuel College today. It was great to see all the parents and friends attend and support our saints. It was fantastic to compete with our local association at Warrnambool Basketball and Port Fairy Basketball, thanks for coming out today and competing, special thanks to Coach Alex Rattray for the invite and to the volunteers that made the day possible.

Clock stops on all whistles in the last 2 minutes of second half with a 4 minute overtime if required

SQUAD SELECTION ANNOUNCEMENTS

Koroit & District Basketball Association is excited to announce our Player selections for the 2024/25 Junior Representative Season. We had overwhelming numbers try out this year and we hope to be able to continue to build capacity and resources to run extra teams next season and beyond.

This season we will have an astounding 10 teams entering tournaments
1x U12 Girls
2x U14 Boys
2x U16 Boys
2x U18 Boys
3x U18 Girls

Players and Parents will receive an email to the address provided from the Tryout registrations which will include our JRP Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Late yesterday the Australian Rollers announced their 12-man squad that will be representing our country at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris and you’ll never guess who’s pulling on the green and gold?! Yep you got it, our boy Jaylen! 💚💛

What a huge achievement by the ever talented 19 year old from the south-west! A huge congratulations to Jaylen, his parents Louise and Matt and siblings, Tommy and Georgie and all of his support crew!

This is massive!!! And we can’t wait to be cheering Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! and following along on this exciting journey!! 🇦🇺
