Cambinata Yabbies is a family-owned business that markets live yabbies to the world and offers gourmet products like pickled yabbies and abalone across Australia. But that’s not all—they also run Mary's Farm Cottages, an eco-friendly village on their broadacre farm, along with the Cambinata Function Centre.

It was a joy to welcome Gwern Thomas, member of Young Farmers Wales and guest of Agconnect WA to our farm and hear his journey in agriculture that started when his grandmother gave him two sheep. 🐑 🐑. It was very inspiring to hear that in a few short years from this modest beginning (without a farming background or inheriting a farm) he has become a successful environmentally friendly farmer! A special thank you to our grandson Jacob for bringing Gwern to check out Cambinata Yabbies. -

We’re on the hunt for farmers, primary producers, and growers to join us at this year’s Farmer on Your Plate! If you’re passionate about sharing your farm-fresh produce and telling the story of how it gets from your farm to your customers plate, we want you at our event.

This is your chance to connect directly with city consumers, educate them about where their food comes from, and showcase the hard work that goes into every bite. Whether you’re bringing seasonal produce or setting up a static information stall, your presence will help bridge the gap between farm and table.

CAN YOU HELP
Looking for producers, sponsors and volunteers who are passionate about agriculture and connecting the city to the farming families that produce the food on their plates.

In 2012 alarmed by the loss of 60% of our farmers in just 10 years I started gathering ‘Farming Champions’ with the ambitious aim to get ALL AUSTRALIANS to become CHAMPIONS of our FAMILY FARMERS. In just 5 weeks a small passionate committee organised the first ‘Farmer on Your Plate’ event in the centre of Perth.
Move forward to 2024 and on 26th October the eleventh FARMER ON YOUR PLATE event will be taking place in Fremantle on the Esplanade. Throughout the day leading chefs will by cooking up and talking with the producers about their produce and valuable conversations will had between farmers and consumers about how farmers care for their animals, invest in improving their soils and grow the food on everyone’s plates as well as the many challenges including the weather. When you visit the Shire of Dumbleyung and Lake Grace Visitor Centre and stay Mary's Farm Cottages you can enjoy our quirky Yabby 🦞 sculptures created by our son Paul. The majority are still in our front paddock. However the last of these photos is of 2 that were mysteriously relocated to ‘swim in Lake Grace’. Fabulous time to visit with green paddocks and increasing number of wildflowers to enjoy #

Update on our yabbies 🦞🦞 that went walk about - one lost its claw in the drama and yesterday thanks to an observant local Derek was advised of its location and retrieved it!
