“Dancing in the Dream Time”

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Alan ‘Palanu’ Brown (Snoz).

Acknowledging a Gunditjmara/Yorta Yorta/Wiradjuri/Wurundjeri strong cultural & spiritual leader who has deeply touched the lives of many of us in Djabugay Country, making this home with his family.

Mayi Wunba will keep his spirit alive through dance, songs & spoken word.

Our hearts are with you family in this time of sorry business 💔

Alan, you will be sadly missed & never forgotten…
Forever in our hearts ♥️

“Dancing and playing your didj in the Dream Time with all your loved ones”

Sending the Guri Mundu for our Mayi Wunba leaders this week as they embark on a week long residential intensive training program with aimed at enhancing facilitation skills for professional practice.
AIMS OF THIS TRAINING:
- Drop into truth telling (past, present & future)
- Find, tell & make sense of our stories
- Feel the feelings, move through the layers of loss, grief & trauma to ownership of choices, leading to strengthening cultural & spiritual identities - both individually & collectively.

The objective for this training is to develop a safe circle through observing protocol and ceremony to facilitate the mapping of trauma and the process of healing - recreating our song lines & healing trails from a facilitators/participants perspective.

Meet Leelan one of Mayi Wunba’s strong leaders.
Leeland started dancing at the age of 7/8 yrs old at the Laura Aboriginal Cultural Dance Festival for Mayi Wunba dancers, then known as Mona Mona Dance Troupe, created by the legendary Lance Riley.
“Being taught at a young age has made me realise the cultural significance that is integrated into everyday life of our people, and is very important in keeping culture alive.

From a young dancer to becoming a leader of Mayi Wunba has helped me grow as an individual and also has helped me grow our cultural integrity in our community, for we are the next leaders and elders to pass down our cultural knowledge and know how to the next generation.

Through dancing it has connected me to many tribal brothers and sisters along the east coast of Australia, and it makes me happy to know our culture is alive and well to date.”

His future is in our hands!
Garrai is his name & we are dedicated to our future generations connection to culture, the land & the old people.
We owe it to our youth to stand strong in what the old people taught us, to pass this knowledge on,
and listen to the voice of the Bama.

Who is taking care of country?
If Country is sick, we are sick too.
That's why healing is connected to all aspects of our lives and we cannot have a healthy future unless our Country is being taken care of.
Remember what the old people taught us.
