There's always so much to do in Heathcote. This Saturday November 4th is the return of Vibes & Vino. From 2pm you will find us and many other wine, beer and gin producers at the Barrack Reserve in Heathcote selling vino and happiness. There'll also be music from the talented Echuca local, Benny Walker as well as Gabriella Cohen, Bella Dear & Chris Cavill AND hot food, kids entertainment and all round good vibes. Tickets are $10 at the gate and kids are free. Bring a picnic blanket and a hat and settle in for a wonderful afternoon supporting our local producers and musicians.

The count down is on to the greatly anticipated annual event, Heathcote Wine & Food Festival. We'll be there showing our newly released Vermentino, Garganega and Rose as well as some of your favourite reds. Get a group together and head out for a great day. There are even buses from both Melbourne & Bendigo. Please note our Cellar Door will be closed on October 7th & 8th to attend this event. Last week we teased that we would have a special host for Be our guest: A virtual wine tasting experience with Munari Wines on August 10th and today we are excited to announce that it is a highly acclaimed wine writer and critic.

Jane is a journalist by training and wine writer by vocation. A long-time contributor and columnist for Halliday magazine, she has been reviewing for the Companion since 2016. Respected for her honesty and fairness yet rigour and independence in her writing and tasting, Jane is constantly honing those skills. She started her career in newspapers, later working at The Age/The Sydney Morning Herald, and also in TV and radio. She is a sought-after wine judge, locally and internationally, and chairs numerous shows. On a personal level, Jane is an Italophile, spending considerable time each year visiting its wine regions and dreams of living in Piemonte. Yet she never tires of travelling throughout the wine world in search of stories and bottles from inspirational, thoughtful producers.

Tonight's spotlight is on our newest wine release, the 2020 Schoolhouse Red Shiraz/Viognier.

Co-fermented with 3% Viognier which helps lift the nose to create more floral ‘pretty’ aromas like violets, it also has notes of Chocolate ganache. The wine has lovely deep flavours with red and dark sweet fruit flavour and slightly powdery tannins adding a fine structure.

Pair with steak and a red wine jus or lamb tagine with dates or prunes.

We're starting to think about what we'll be nibbling on during our event Virtual Tasting to be held on August 10th. We love to have a variety of cheese, making sure there is a mix of soft and hard cheese, goats cheese is a great addition as it has a lovely fresh tang, we're betting it will go well with Sangiovese. Then add some freshly sliced cured meats, prosciutto, bresola and mortadella are some of our favs. A sweet condiment makes an excellent pairing to blue cheese so why not try honey or caramalised onion jam. Finally some fresh fruit can clense the palate and finish with tonnes of bread!
