I have been a little quiet on my page of late due to my being on holiday until 3rd week in September. Please don't let that put you off asking any questions, regarding your wedding or the passing of a loved one.

💙 Words 💙

Instead of saying, "I know what it feels like", let's say "I cannot imagine your heartbreak".

Instead of saying, "You're strong, you'll get through this, let's say " You'll hurt, and I'll be here.

Instead of saying, "You look like you're doing well, Let's say, "How are you holding up today?"

Instead of saying, "Healing takes time", let's say "Healing has no timeline".

Instead of saying, "Everything happens for a reason, let's say "This must feel so terribly senseless right now".

And when there are no words to say at all, you don't need to try and find some. Love speaks in silences too.

We are travelling at the moment, yesterday going through the Barosa I glimpsed wedding photos being taken amongst the vines.

On parking up in the afternoon walking the dogs in a small rural town a large funeral procession went past. A well known gentleman from the town we were told.

Then I kid you not in the changing rooms at the park a very new three week old bub being changed!

I thought the big moments in life in one day!

I am privileged with the diversity of being a Civil Celebrant.

There are days of sadness burying others loved ones. The privilege is to hear their stories, the life they had in order to write their eulogy.

Then, the days of happiness come around in the many weddings. The privilege is to share their joy and hear the story of how they met in order to write individual scripts for the special day.

Of course I conduct other ceremonies, such as child naming, very precious and beautiful days.

I travel the State to different stunning locations. I work with many creative caring folk.

Can I help with your next chapter?

If can please comment or I disappear from socials.

Worth thinking about, this may not be for everyone. I was recently given this little book before the funeral of a lady. It was given to her by a granddaughter a few years before.

It gives a wonderful account of her timeliness and memories. There are questions that prompt. Not only is it a treasured keepsake, it would have been lovely for the lady herself to write.

I am told you can get them for all family dad, mum, etc not just grandma's, Memory books.

Perhaps a nice thing to start for future reference in many ways.

The New Year has seen many people saying goodbye to loved ones. Very difficult to start a New Year in this way. Remember like a key for a lock you to can unlock memories when you need to.

When someone is stitched into the fabric of your life it feels impossible to say goodbye. However remember the key.

The holiday season is a time of joy and celebration for many, but it can be challenging for those navigating grief. Here are some ways we can bring comfort to those facing loss:

🤝 Emotional presence: During festivities, emotions can intensify. Being present and acknowledging the season's unique challenges can provide profound comfort. Let's offer a listening ear and a compassionate heart.

🕯️ Create meaningful rituals: Help people design rituals honouring those they have lost. From lighting a special candle to sharing stories, these rituals can bring a sense of connection and continuity.

🌈 Cultural sensitivity: Recognise and respect diverse cultural traditions during the holiday season. Understanding these practices allows us to tailor our support, ensuring it aligns with the individual's cultural background and preferences.

📚 Educate on grief responses: Grief doesn't adhere to a schedule, and the holidays may intensify its expression. Educating people on the diverse ways grief can manifest empowers them to navigate the season with increased self-compassion.

🤗 Provide coping strategies: Share coping strategies tailored to the holiday context. From journaling to creating memory ornaments, offering practical tools empowers individuals to channel their grief in ways that resonate with their unique healing journey.

🌟 Encourage self-compassion: Remind those grieving that prioritising self-care is okay. Encourage gentle self-compassion practices, emphasising the importance of nurturing their well-being during this challenging time.

💬 Facilitate communication: Initiate open conversations about the person who has passed. By creating a safe space for reminiscence, we enable people to share memories, laughter, and tears, fostering connection even in the absence of a physical presence.

As end of life doulas, our commitment to compassionate care extends into the emotional landscapes of holidays. Let's continue to be beacons of empathy and support during this sensitive time. 🌹
