Coming to Launceston Conference Centre this coming Friday night -

Councillor, Doctor and Clinical Associate Professor George Razay will be launching his new book - “Dementia: A New Hope. Casting Light On a Challenging Disease”

All are invited and it's free. But please get a ticket so we know what numbers to expect.
We hope to see you there.

All are invited and

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the launch of my book “Dementia: A New Hope. Casting Light On a Challenging Disease”, on the 15st of November at 5.30 pm (presentation 6.00-7.00 pm, at the Door of Hope, 50 Glen Dhu street, Launceston.

Dementia: A New Hope is an informative guidebook, shedding light on the complexities of dementia disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Drawing from personal experiences and a wealth of knowledge accumulated through research, the book shares invaluable insights into risk factors, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Through practical insights, readers are empowered to navigate the complexities of memory disorders with confidence and understanding.
The mission is to dismantle stigmas, raise awareness, and promote early assessment, diagnosis, and intervention. Dementia: A New Hope is a catalyst for change. It challenges misconceptions, offers hope, and provides practical steps towards healthy aging.

The book draws from my personal research journey and Tassie Dementia Talks, a series of 21 presentations I delivered across Tasmania between 2021 and 2023. These efforts are contributing to reducing the stigma toward dementia in general and Alzheimer’s disease in particular. This is highlighted by our study showing that 45% of people with memory disorders had Mild Cognitive Impairment, which suggests that people are seeking early assessment and diagnosis.
Dementia Australia released a statement on 16 September 2024 “Urgent action needed- ‘community’ is the challenge and solution for people with dementia”. Moreover, new research has demonstrated that over the past decade, there has been a persistent lack of understanding about dementia among Australians, with 68% of people saying they know little about dementia, which is leading to stigma and discrimination.
I believe this book will help greatly in increasing public awareness and understanding of dementia and its stigma by giving people hope.
Please feel free to share it.

Warm regards

Professor George Razay, MD,MRCP,MD (uk),FRACP,FANZSGM
Geriatrician, Launceston General Hospital, University of Tasmania.

When you visit Launceston Conference Centre and Door of Hope Christian Church, you will find Selah Cafe just inside both entrances. They provide fantastic coffee (and other beverages too) and lots of great food options, worth checking out. This week there have we have seen some exciting new inclusions to the cafe staffing and the food cabinets, that will amaze you.

So, let me add a special welcome to Sabina from Sabina’s Petit Gateau to our Door of Hope community.

Come and See! Or should I say. Taste and see!
