Trans Awareness Week is held from November 13th - 19th in the week leading up to Trans Day of Remembrance to help raise awareness of trans and gender diverse people, the issues facing our communities, and the ways people can get involved as allies to improve lives and create a more fair and equal world for everyone.

🏳️‍⚧️What is Trans Day of Remembrance?

Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honours the memory of the trans lives lost to acts of transphobia and discrimination.

On November 20, we hold a day of gathering, togetherness, and community solidarity. We remember those we've lost, celebrate our strength in the face of adversity, and commit to fighting transphobia to create a better, safer, and more inclusive world for everyone.

Bittersweet night with the founding President Ali and much of the committee saying goodbye and handing over the reins.

It has been a privilege for the LGBTQIA community to have you all onboard, striving to make a difference and enhancing visibility in Laurieton and the surrounds.

The impact you all have achieved may not have been the one you had hoped for but rest assured you dove into uncharted waters and made huge waves (not just in the river 😉)

You will not be forgotten and we hope that you continue on the journey with the new committee in anyway possible. You’ll always have a seat with us x

It is with sadness that the committee for Rainbow on the River would like to inform everyone that the events planned for the 28th October, 2023 have been cancelled.
There are many contributing factors which have lead to this decision.
We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks for all those who have supported our vision and plans for bringing this event to life.
The good news is that Rainbow on the River’s flame will continue to burn with a new committee coming on board. They will be guiding it into the future and honouring the vision to “offer the local community an opportunity to celebrate diversity in all forms by focusing on education, connection, safety, acceptance, inclusion and equality”

It was great to meet the team from ACON Northern Rivers yesterday.
The infectiously delightful Amy & Jai graciously opened The Nook North Haven exclusively for our event. Thankyou 🙏
The team from ACON gave us great advice, support and resources for the LGBQTI+ community. The Nook and The Propagation Station are both safe spaces for the 🌈 community.
You can find any info or support on anything 🌈 via social media, the acon website or locally ask either David or Shaun who will point you in the right direction. If Acon don’t know the answer they will find it.
Please know support is ALWAYS available. Please reach out to any of us if you need support, without judgement or stigma.

Rainbow on the River will be there supporting the event, and the Committee Team will have a stall promoting and fundraising, as we strive to bring The Camden Haven its Inaugural Mardi Gras Parade & Festival on Oct 28th 🏳️‍🌈

You will find us on the left when you enter, along side The Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce &The Propagation Stationn 🌿 Be sure to buy some of Shaun’s delicious Guacamole and Corn chips, with proceeds supporting our cause 🥑💚 We will also be selling tickets to our upcoming Rainbow River Ball 🪩✨

Today marks the commemoration of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) 🏳️‍🌈

IDAHOBIT serves as a global celebration of LGBTQIA+ individuals while also shedding light on the ongoing efforts required to confront and eliminate prejudice and inequality.

Remember, never lose hope - you are cherished and embraced with immense love!

Join us for the first ever LGBTIQ and Allies True Colours Ball in Laurieton. We have a fantastic line up of entertainment including Cheryl Hall and The Wisemen, Planchette and SoulFire Pole Dancers. We will also have a silent auction commencing about 6 weeks before the event.

So dress up in your favourite “Ball-going” outfit and come and enjoy a 3 course meal, some dancing and heaps of fun, plus a glass of wine on arrival.

Plus on Thursday 22nd June there will be a free screening of the old classic “Barbarella” featuring Jane Fonda (when she was about 30 years old!) which should be a hoot, at Laurieton Plaza Theatre. This is included in your ticket price.

There are three ticketing options:

1. Single Entry to the Ball plus free movie $85.00

2. 2 nights accommodation (twin share), at Haven Waters Motel, Ball Entry for 1 person, and free movie $325 (nb when choosing this option if there is two people sharing a room you will need to buy an extra single ticket from option 1)

3. Table of 10 booked all together plus free movie entry each $765.00 per table (10% discount = $76.00pp)

Karina and I had a meeting with ACON last week in Lismore. One of the things which came up was a the Welcome Here program which they run. It is a program which provides easy visibility of accepting businesses for anyone who is LGBTIQ+.
There is a minimal fee of $15 to be part of the program which basically just covers ACONs costs.
It would be making if some of the local businesses in this area joined up to show their support.
