Do you remember as a child coming home from school and walking through the front door and knowing in an instant, mum had just pulled out of the oven a lemon delicious cake or a batch of scones ready to be smothered in jam and butter? We do, and so in 2006 Mountain First Catering was born with its mission to revitilise this memory and provide quality home prepared meals and baked goods like mum and
gran used to make for private and corporate clients. If you need catering for a wake/life celebration, conference, private high tea, dinner party, wedding or birthday celebration or just need a cake for someone special we can provide. We cook and bake with all the old recipes that people recognize and prepare foods the old fashioned way. Special dietary requirements such a gluten free and diary free are no problem as we can adapt many of the recipes and tell you exactly what is in them because we make them from scratch using quality product and ingredients. Our people hold the necessary qualifications – great home cooks taught by their mother, grandmother or aunt but also the modern versions such as Certificate 4 in Hospitality. The necessary requirements by the NSW Food Authority are also meet as I have the Food Safety Supervisor Certificate and our kitchen is rated most highly by Katoomba Council for cleanliness and adherence to all regulations.
Third day of December and already we have catered 4 special occassions.
We had a cocktail party in Springwood for 100 to celebrate a retirement, a Christmas street party in Leura where we made over 500 canapes, a special birthday cake which travelled to the city and lastly a grazing box and 16 individual pavlovas which were delivered to Blaxland.

Wow! What a beautiful venue is Bindo Creek near Hampton. Catering there yesterday for 65 Local Land Services team members we had the pleasure of creating a sweet and savoury grazing table for morning tea, canapes and salads for lunch and then a travel box with sandwiches, macaron, lemon and almond cake, juice and fresh fruit to sustain them for their trip home.
A huge thank you to Barbara Morley and my mum for without their help this would not have come to fruition.
Catering for birthday celebrations, an Annual General Meeting and a thank you gift for guests staying at an Air B&B made the week fly by.
A three course dinner for a murder mystery birthday party in Blackheath, a bespoke lunch and dessert box for a ride on the zig zag railway and sandwiches and fruit grazing boxes as refreshments for a concert at Wentworth Falls School of the Arts kept us busy this weekend.
To celebrate a 70th birthday we catered a grazing table and canapes for a lovely person today.
This weekend was a whirlwind!
Over 4 days we cooked many vegetarian and vegan meals for a wonderful group of yogis from Pranayoga Bathurst staying at Kanimbla View - Clifftop Retreat. We created a beautiful 3-layer coconut cake for a special birthday celebration in Hazelbrook and made 4 large fruit and antipasto boxes and a large croissant box for a wonderful bridal party at Mugloa.
A big thank you to Barbara Morley and my mum for all their help as there was some very early mornings involved.
Where have we been for the past 8 days?
We have been at Random Cottage - Girl Guides House in Mt Victoria over looking the Kanimbla Valley catering for a wonderful group of students from St Leonard's College Victoria. Providing hot breakfasts, packed lunches, hearty dinners and afternoon treats each day we worked overlooking the most beautiful view.
Thank you to Blue Mountains Adventure Company for choosing us to help with this group. We had a ball.
This weekend started early with vegan and vegetarian grazing boxes being delivered to Chapel Hill Retreat on Thursday for a lovely bride and groom. Then today we made a beautiful spread of canapés, sandwiches, grazing boxes and sweet treats for a special lady celebrating a significant birthday.
What a wonderful venue is Allview Escape, Blackheath, Blue Mountains. Catering there yesterday we were privileged to the glorious view that is its natural back drop. With antipasto and fresh fruit boxes, sandwiches, sweet and savoury canapes and refreshments we provided an afternoon tea for the guests at a Life Celebration.
For a special 20th birthday on this beautiful spring day we made a vanilla and fresh strawberry ombre cake and vegan cupcakes. Hope you have a great day.

Today was such a lovely day for birthday celebrations. An extra large chocolate fudge cake with chocolate fudge frosting and fresh berries made its way to Hartley and closer to home 36 gluten free cupcakes in 3 different flavours were delivered to a local restaurant for the party to enjoy.

It was all hands on deck for what has been a monumental week.
Catering over 5 days for a Writers Retreat at The Old Leura Dairy we meet some great people from Western Sydney Uni. Then on Wednesday we delivered throughout the Mountains 16 savoury and sweet grazing boxes for the Connect Child and Family Services team to celebrate Educators Day.
A big thank you once again to Barbara Morley and my mum who helped with deliveries, cooking and moral support. I could not have done it without you.
With the first day of Spring and Father's Day this week it has been all about baking, cooking and celebrations.
We had a corporate function at the Old Leura Dairy, made paw patrol cupcakes for a special 3rd birthday, baked a New York cheesecake for a wonderful Father and made red velvet cupakes with white chocolate buttercream for a special celebration.
"Yes we deliver" is a motto we stand by. This week we delivered not only to Katoomba and Leura but also to Bowral where a local business was holding a Father's Day promotion. Thank you to my wonderful mum who did the trip and Barbara Morley who kept the wheels turning here at home.

First a gluten free red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting went out for a special 18th birthday cebebration in the city.
Then for a Christmas in July get together we made a lentil and vegetable curry with rice and yoghurt, herbed roast beef and baked veggies. Delicious.

Since the Cafe days it has been me and my little blue Jazz making deliveries up and down the Mountain. Many people would wave to us. Last week my little blue Jazz saved me from serious injury as I aquaplaned and ended up on the edge of a very steep hill. She however, did not fare as well and has now been retired. Please meet her replacement - my little orange Jazz.
Thanks to Gavin at Springwood Motor World we are back on the road and made our maiden delivery with freshly baked scones and a flourless chocolate cake for a special birthday celebration.

A great way to spend this Kings long weekend is to stay in and enjoy home style cooking in front of an open fire. Our heat and eat catering delivered to Rose Cottage in Leura and the Straw Bale House at The Old Leura Dairy let the guests do just that.
We had a delightful afternoon catering a cocktail party in Wentworth Falls. This family combined many birthday celebrations as they were missed due to covid. A great time was had by all.

Who loves a murder mystery?
We do and catering canapes in the library at The Boutique Hotel in Blackheath for a murder mystery night was a highlight of this busy weekend.
Baking special birthday cakes, cooking heat and eat meals, catering for a child's bithday party and constructing high tea and sweet treat boxes for Mother's Day kept us busy this week.

It was a chocolate themed weekend for birthday celebration cakes.
The ladies of the View Club always order white chocolate and berry cheesecake slice for their meeting as it is their favourite. Today they also selected dark chocolate and raspberry mousse and coconut and cherry macaroons to enjoy with their sandwiches. Have a great meeting ladies.
Whirl wind weekend finished tonight. Lunch and dinner for the crew of the Baroque and Beyond Music Festival in Blackheath on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then a grazing table with canapes for a bithday celebration in Katomba. Now time to relax.
Black forest cupcakes for a special celebration, vegan vanilla mini cupcakes for a team at Katoomba Hospital and 2 days of corporate catering at The Old Leura Dairy has kept us busy this week. It was geat to cater again for The Peak Learning Group who were back in the Blue Mountains to explore the wonderful walks we have on offer in the region.

Birthday wishes to two lovely people. A chocolate M&M pinata cake and a pear and almond crumble cake with fresh cream and poached pears were made to commemorate their special day.

This weekend saw us deliver up and down the Mountains. A variety of gluten free canapes went to a lovely group of ladies staying at Glenella Guest House in Blackheath. A six layer ombre vanilla and chocolate marble cake with chocolate covered strawberries went to Hazelbrook Bowling Club for an 18th birthday and a gluten free vegetarian grazing box made its way to the Lighthouse Church in Katoomba for a party.
Today was our first day back at The Old Leura Dairy for 2023 with corporate catering. Preparing breakfast, morning tea and lunch for a regular client it was great to see some familar faces. We also catered for the View Club monthy meeting with freshly made sandwiches and lovely sweet treats.
So much variety from our clients this week:
* Heat and eat meals delivered to a lovely family in Leura. Meatballs in a rich tomato and vegetable sauce, beef stroganoff and creamy mash and a sweet dessert box
* Sweet treats box delivered to Wentworth Falls Vet as a thank you to the staff
* 5 savoury canapes for cocktail function this evening
* Gluten free hummingbird cake and fresh custard tarts delivered to The Lower Mountains Family Practice for morning tea
