The Final Day Of John Lennon's Life :

December 8, 1980.

You're John Lennon, one of the most beloved, respected, and influential musicians in the world. It's going to be a very busy day.

After years of living in seclusion you're back in the public eye and enjoying it. After years of legal and marriage problems things are finally at peace for the time being.

You've just recorded your first new album in over five years called “Double Fantasy” and just heard that it's starting to sell well and just went gold. You're also happy to hear that people are more accepting of Yoko's music. They are actually giving it a chance and saying positive things for the first time.

Your plan seems to be working. By releasing one album to get your feet wet and reintroduce yourself to the public, now you're working on the next record, and, if all goes well you plan to start touring again for the first time since your days in The Beatles. You're also planning on going back to the U.K. and your hometown of Liverpool to visit family and friends you haven't seen in years and introduce them to your five year old son Sean.

After years of being estranged you’re finally starting to really reach out to your first born son Julian. Even talking to him on the phone regularly, playing him your new songs to ask his opinion of what he thinks. You’re treating him not just as your oldest son but a friend. You're happy to be living in New York City, the future truly looks bright.

Your day starts by having a photographer from Rolling Stone Magazine show up to take some pictures of you. They have promised you that you'll be on the cover of the next issue but you run into a problem. They only want you, not Yoko. You find this unacceptable so you take some photos that they can't turn down, with you cuddled up against Yoko naked. The photo used will become legendary.

After that you give an in depth radio interview talking about your Beatles’ past and how you seem to be at peace with it. Also about becoming middle aged, how you're looking forward to the 1980s because to you the 70s were a drag. Also talking about how you hoped to be around for a very long time because you still had so much to do. You sound invigorated and rejuvenated, ready to take in the new decade.

In the late afternoon you leave your apartment to head to a recording studio. Outside your apartment building you always greet fans, happy to sign autographs especially if it's your new album “Double Fantasy”.

You have one young man walk up to you and say nothing. You see he's holding a copy of your new album, you volunteer to sign it and hand it back. You ask if he would like anything else. He says no and you get into your limousine.

The recording session is very fruitful. You're excited about a new song of Yoko's you're working on called "Walking On Thin Ice". You think it has all the elements to become a hit
as you listen back to the mixes.

You decide to leave the studio after 10:00 P.M. eastern time and Yoko asks if you want to go get something to eat. You say no, you want to go say goodnight to your son Sean, and also feel bad for fans waiting for you to get home to get autographs in the cold weather.

As you arrive home you get out of the limousine, and see a face you remember from earlier in the night. It's the same guy you signed your album for hours earlier. You walk by him, and.....

We all know what happened next.

Just like that all of those goals and dreams are GONE.

A voice of a generation GONE.

A father, husband, brother, and friend
GONE.

One of the greatest musicians and songwriters of all time GONE.

And the rest of us are left to go on without him.

Over 16 years before John Lennon came to America to help us get over the assassination of our President John F. Kennedy. Now we were left to grieve at the assassination of him. All it took was one disturbed individual to take that all away from us.

Proof that life just isn't fair.

John Lennon has now been gone 42 years. He’s now been gone two years longer than he was on this earth. Yet his legacy proves that he will remain relevant and alive to his fans for generations to come.
