Now is a good time to reflect on the history of the Wimmera Field Day.
Here’s the wrap: A group of regional Wimmera farmers and agricultural association members formed a Machinery Field Days committee and a decision was made to host the inaugural Wimmera Machinery Field Days for two days in the first week in March in 1963 on a site provided by Longerenong Agricultural College. There were approximately 80 exhibitors in attendance, a significant machinery demonstration program was carried out and over 3000 people visited. It is now Victoria’s longest running Field Days and Australia’s premier broad acre and machinery focused event.
We express our gratitude to the committee, attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors for their continued energy and enthusiasm, which has helped our annual event deliver value to our farmers and community year on year.

“My dad would buy Mum’s birthday present each year at the field days. Always something she needed the green esky, (handy for fish at robe), a fishing rod, one year, a generator and lastly a wheelbarrow!”

Sure, we encourage walking, but let’s be real – with so much to see and do, who has time to jog from one exhibit to another in order to fit it all in?
That’s why we’re rolling out the big guns – a Free bus at the Field Days.
There are numerous bus stops (see site map) including at all gates where you can simply hop on or hop off anytime. The onsite FREE service runs throughout the day from 9am-4pm.

The field of agriculture encompasses a wide range of careers beyond traditional farming. From agribusiness management and agricultural engineering to agriscience research and agricultural education, there’s a diverse array of opportunities to explore.
So come along to the Careers In Ag - Panel Discussion, happening now in the Auditorium.
A message from our President, Tim Rethus:
Much has changed in the last 6 decades in Agriculture. Of course, the machinery has changed, and there may be less farmers doing more, but we now grow a greater diversity of crops and have adapted our farming systems to be more climate resilient and sustainable. At the same time we grow more food, fibre and energy at a lower cost. We thank our forebears for initiating this great agriculture showcase which has enriched our farms and communities.
So take a look 👀 and wonder at the progression of agriculture in the Wimmera and ponder what it will look like in another 60 years.
Enjoy your time with us and I hope to see you again at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days in 2025.
The great thing about a field day is talking direct with the people behind the builds. Australian Made Boss Agriculture planters are proving popular with the farming crowd!
Let Dan walk you through the key features to this planter frame and the reasons why Wimmeria growers are getting good results in the field 👍
Still got questions ❓
