🚨 Stinger Sunday Spotlight! 🚨

🌞 With the weather heating up, the waters up north will soon be buzzing with our stinger friends! There are so many myths about jellyfish stings (hint: don't p*e on them!), but it's crucial to know the facts. Today, we're talking about the one and only Box Jellyfish!

Common name: Box Jellyfish
Scientific name: Chironex fleckeri

Symptoms:
🔥 Immediate, intense burning pain
👀 Whip-like marks on the skin (with tentacles still stuck on you—ouch!)
⚠️ Severe stings can stop your heart or breathing

Treatment:
For stings north of Agnes Water, vinegar is your hero.

Emergency Steps:
1️⃣ Get the casualty out of the water (safely!)
2️⃣ Kick off DRSABCD (First Aid 101)
3️⃣ Call triple zero (000) and flag down a lifesaver or lifeguard
4️⃣ Start CPR if necessary
5️⃣ Douse that sting with vinegar for at least 30 seconds, and carefully remove any tentacles

The winner of our Jarvis Walker Australia Day raffle was Clare.

MSLSC would just like to wish our champion U14's Cadence & Bella and U17's Zara & Nate all the best at this weekends State Surf Rescue Championships at Dicky Beach, Caloundra.

They have been training relentlessly over the last few months to prepare for the multidisciplinary champion lifesaver event as well as the team first aid competition. Thanks to their coaches Cathy McKinnon and Stewart Richardson, your expertise, knowledge and commitment has set them on a path to success at a regional, state & national level.

The club wishes you all the best and hopes you do us all proud 💪 Have fun & enjoy this well earned experience!
