I’m from the Italian alps, born and raised.
If I had to describe the landscape to someone that had never been there, I’d say that it is paradise on earth. I’m biased and I know it.
I had the chance to go back home for the first time in 6 years and I must admit, seeing family, friends and the stunning scenery after so long was emotional.
I’ve hiked in Italy all my life, but these last 3 weeks was different. It was like seeing and experiencing everything for the first time, I had a new and unique appreciation for the rocky outcrops and those white peaks.
The mountain can be a place of total tranquillity and peace but claims just as much chaos and danger.
Thanks to climate change in recent years we’ve seen record breaking heat waves that have caused these regions to become unstable; The perfect example is the recent landslide caused by a detached piece of ice from one of the main glacier, killing 11 people.
This set represents my emotion during this short period of time: the reminiscence of home, the love of the people close to me, the beauty of the landscape and the awareness of its fleetingness.
