The end of an Era 💔

Less than two weeks until Pockets Sports crown their Champion of Champions. A $20,000 prize pool is up for grabs, but there's no reward for coming second. The whole prize pool will end up in the winners pocket.

The longer, single elimination format will really let the cream rise to the top. Momentum will be key to building a formidable lead, as the races to 10 will allow for many momentum swings in the match.

Justin Sajich will head in as the number one ranked Pro Series player, while Michael Reardon tops the Challenger Series rankings. The format will see the top ranked Pro Series player take on the 8th ranked Challenger Series player. With the 2nd ranked Pro Series player battling against the 7th ranked Challenger Series player, and so on.

The Pockets Sports arena is going to be rocking with 12 hours of back-to-back matches before the Champ of Champs is crowned. Will a Pro Series player be too good? Or will we see a Challenger emerge and make themselves the man to beat next year?

Whatever the outcome, it will be an atmosphere like none other experienced yet at Pockets Sports. Make sure you make it down to Tullamarine to be part of the action on the 9th of September or catch the live stream at 8.45am at pockets.com.au.

Oceania Nineball World Ranking Event Two Registrations Open.

Pockets Sports Director, Arthur Titus has wasted no time in opening registrations for the Oceania Nineball World Ranking Event 2. Arthur was quick on the phone to his Head of Events to start planning for the second event, scheduled to commence on the 3rd of November at Empire Bar & Pool.

The first event was such a raging success that it was too much to resist immediate action, as visitors to the Pockets website saw that registrations were already open. We spoke to the Head of Events, Jay Windross, who Tournament Directed this weekends’ event:

“The feedback has been absolutely incredible. We worked so hard for this one and we're glad its paid off”.

“It was one of the most enjoyable and smoothly run events that I have ever been a part of, so I can definitely see the appeal of players wanting to enter again”.

Event two of the 3-day Oceania Nineball World Ranking events begins Friday 3rd of November and the Pockets Sports arena will be set up again.

“The response to the tables and the conditions provided by Alec and his team were overwhelmingly positive. Adding our arena set up and our production crew with some of the best facilities a venue can offer makes it an extremely top shelf experience.”

“Alec and I are already in discussions of possibly having two arena tables for event two”, Jay said.

Teuscher’s Touch of Class 🏆

Marco Teuscher will forever be etched in Oceania pool history as he became the first ever Oceania Nineball World Ranking event winner on Sunday evening.

Pockets Sports, running the event on behalf of Matchroom Pool saw a field of 128 players converging on Empire Bar & Pool in Adelaide, Australia for this historical event. Empire, owned and operated by one of the most decorated pool players Australia has ever produced in Alec Evreniadis, provided a venue worthy of World Class recognition. Couple that with Pockets Sports relocating their Pockets Sports arena into Empire, it created an atmosphere almost impossible to replicate.

Marco was in incredible form, losing only 24 frames for the whole event. 25% of those frames came in the final as he was staring down a four frame deficit when his opponent, Mark Lacey knocked in the nine-ball in the eighth frame to go 6-2 up in the race to 11. From then, Marco switched into a gear that saw him as the number one ranked player. Marco won the next nine frames to secure the $AUD11,600 check and the first trophy of the Oceania Nineball Tour.

In his closing speech, Marco quoted that winning this event was one of his greatest accomplishments. With the second World Ranking event due to be held on the first weekend of November, It would be hard for him to shake off the “favourite” tag when it rolls around.

Due to popular demand Event 2 registrations have already opened up and are being swooped up very quickly.
