So Luke Gygax posted an image of a special TIME edition, celebrating the 50th anniversary of D&D… Though I’m not exactly an expert in how often TIME has covered D&D, a quick Google landed me at an article by Kat Welch from Wizards of the Coast called “The Magic of Dungeons and Dragons Can Save Us - But Only If You Let It!”, linked in the comments and a couple of others that the internet where I am in regional QLD is not cooperating with me. It seems as though this entire issue is dedicated to D&D, which I believe is a first for the magazine.

D&D and assorted other role playing and TTRPGs have had many accusations of corrupting the youth hurled their way, and have had their fair share of controversies over the decades. D&D was caught up in the Satanic Panic of the 80s, has been made a “big deal” of in a number of murder and other tragic and criminal cases and it has even been banned in many prisons, due to a lot of misunderstandings about what was going on. One story I read talked about a particular corrections officer who continually interrupted a groups games and sent every one of their IC maps to the prison board because he was sure that they were escape plans. They weren’t.

It’ll be interesting to see what this issue contains, especially in light of some projects and research we’ve been working on! 🥰
