It's 'Super Saturday' at the Australian Open today and the Melbourne Convention Bureau had a blast hosting a group of media here for the BestCities Global Alliance Forum on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, before the gates opened to the public. We happened to walk past the famous Rod Laver himself, the namesake of the Australian Open arena that has showcased tennis legends. Took an impressive stroll along the corridor players use to walk onto the court. Chatted in Tennis HQ's boardroom with Australian former no.1 tennis player Casey Dellacqua. And enjoyed brunch at Bar Atrium with dishes curated by talented Melbourne chef Tom Sarafian. We truly got to experience why Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia.

What a great time to hold a business event in Melbourne!

Great day for MCB’s CEO Julia Swanson and City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp to explore the 2022 Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) at . Pouring that perfect brew and watching the best baristas from across the globe battle it out at the World Barista Championship (WBC) and World Brewers Cup (WbrC).

With MCB’s support, Australia is the only country other than the United States to host the WBC more than once! Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) is known throughout the world as the largest dedicated coffee event that highlights the craft of filter coffee brewing by hand, promoting manual coffee brewing and service excellence. It has become a haven for baristas to explore trends and for international roasters, manufacturers and traders to showcase their brand to what many argue is a leading coffee market - so it’s rather fitting that Melbourne is hosting this esteemed event.
Melbourne really is Australia’s coffee capital!

Victoria, in partnership with the Commonwealth Government, will be the Pacific Regional Convening Partner for the Women Deliver 2023 Conference – one of the largest gender equality conferences in the world!

Melbourne Convention Bureau is proud to be part of the Victorian Government’s important work in the lead up to Women Deliver 2023 which will bring over 6,000 gender equality champions, feminists and decision makers from across the world to Kigali, Rwanda.

Together, with our Pacific neighbours we will fast-track collective action to bring perspectives on climate justice, First Nations treaty and truth-telling, economic empowerment, women’s sexual health and reproductive rights and ending gender-based violence.

As a Regional Convening Partner, we will create a regional committee of grassroots advocates, women’s rights organisations and sector partners, and host in person and virtual events in the lead up to the conference.

Our insights will then be brought to Kigali to co-create solutions that progress women’s health and rights on a global scale.
Stay tuned to our channels to find out more about this exciting opportunity.
