I married these two beautiful souls on Saturday. It was emotional, intimate and stunning for so many reasons.

We met each other in person for the first time 10 minutes before the ceremony began and it only took a warm smile and a big embrace to know this was going to be perfect.

Sometimes my couples couldn’t be anymore different which makes my job so interesting but one thing is that they’re all super great people.

It’s Trickey Tricky Trickey…

Mel and Shane stuck to their guns after a couple of locky D postponements and did it their way with all of the original crew. And boy was it worth it.
We trekked into the ceremony space in thongs, converse high tops, boots…whatever it took. There had been a s**t tonne of rain but the day shone gloriously for us.

Let the wedstival begin!

ELOPEMENTS don’t have to be dull. I couldn’t have been more beside myself when Raman & Peter asked if I’d be up for a challenge. I said and then watched every episode in 4 weeks to give them Moira Rose. ❤️

It was Netty & Jay’s love for motorcycles that turned the ignition and amped up the RPM’s as they took the coast road to love town.

They tied the knot at one of their fave local places…a place of sustainability, longevity, a place to relax in nature…oh and a random tram car. They were total bosses in front of the camera…Jay is usually the man behind the lens and today worked the angles from the spotlight position. Netty a musician and total babe new exactly what to do…together those pics are gonna be smokin 🔥

Today I forgot the marriage documents. It was the first time in near 500 weddings…26 weddings in 5 weeks and 2 to go…I’m burnt. Luckily I live around the corner and was back 10 minutes after the ceremony for a relaxed signing of the cert.

AND we’re back! Nothing like a cheeky little hump day nuptials. Brad & Justine had a couple of red hot cracks at having the big wedding before deciding they just wanted to get married because at the end of the day that’s what it’s about. They took their 7 closest mates for a two day treat in Wensleydale where they’ll be lounging around sipping cocktails and having a laugh like they were when I left them today. There were vows from Panterra and a whole lotta love.

Great working with & today. Thanks for making me feel at ease and seamlessly slipping back on the horse.

I’M BACK, LIKE I NEVER LEFT…
Actually I never left, I’m just over doing tonnes of glorious small weddings.

I’ve decided not to take on anymore new weddings until this madness subsides…2034? Anyone’s guess.

All of my gorgeous current couples have had to cancel their dreams many times and I’ll ride it out with them. But I’ve gotta say over at The Altar Electric we’re alive and kicking. We’ve been plenty of couples plan B and they couldn’t be happier…worth thinking about.

I love that like Tim 👇 50% of the time it’s the groom who makes contact with me and who I mostly communicate with right up until the wedding day.

Alesha and Tim both had equal input into their ceremony and both valued their wedding day and what it represented- THEM.

Gone are the days where the bride referred to the wedding day as HER day.

Crazy s**t happens at my weddings ALL THE TIME
...but this one took the cake.

Sach and Anna are two of the most vibrant, kooky, interesting ladies who are as funny as hell. 🍭
Boy did we fit together like 3 peas in an edamame pod.💕

From a group sing-a-long (Lily Allen’s ‘F**k You’) to excerpts of a poem randomly popping up through their story and a B**B hold replacing holding hands during the vows. It was SPECTACULAR. 🌈☄️⚡️

You’d want to make sure that the person you choose to stand beside you (the other side) on your wedding day is someone who also loves you unconditionally. That person will give you strength, love, respect and plenty of laughs.

When Maddie met Simon it was an unwritten agreement that Stephen came as part of the package. Luckily Stephen is the best third wheel EVER and quickly became one of her favourite people too.

As much as Stephen had Simon’s back on his big day ...Maddie knew he had her back too because that’s just the kinda guy he is.

Fun fact - I got to marry Stephen a few years later (on a plane...mid flight) and Simon was his wing man.

MORE THAN JUST WEDDING PHOTOGRAHY...

No one knew that this would be the last time they would celebrate with Barb.

Last year I married Michael & Bec. Anna Taylor captured their wedding which would also be the last photos taken of Michael’s mum. Barb died 3 months later. This image captured every essence of who she was...a colourful, larger than life lady who loved loud music, dancing and her family.

This beautiful piece of photography is now a treasured heirloom by the family and all those who loved her.

When you hire a photographer for your wedding bear in mind that you’re not just creating memories of your day but you’re documenting the people you adore and their love for you. You might not realise it now but when they’re gone you’ll hang onto every single line of their face.

Photographers document history they take imagery of more than just your wedding, they take imagery of every moment made, every bit of joy, every exhilarating smile, every spilt drink and every second of madness.

So think twice before you get your mate who is a hobby photo taker to document one of the single most important days of your life.

GIVE A S**T ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY!

Your guests will thank you that you didn’t make them sit through the most god awful 20-30 minutes of their lives leaving them tonguing for a drink.

Firstly do the research and find yourself a bloody good Moment Maker (celebrant). Without one you’re screwed.

Make sure they really get to know you.
Can they tell a story?
Does their personality fit in with yours?
Will they spend time writing a story about you, for you?
Are they performers?

A top notch celebrant will get the feels from your crowd, make everyone comfortable, and amp up the vibes giving the photographer so much gold they won’t know where to point the lens.

We’ve all been to a s**t ceremony. Don’t be that couple who doesn’t give a s**t about the ceremony bit. Without the ceremony it’s a party and you can have one of those anytime (for half the expense).

WHAT MAKES THE BEST WEDDING EVER?...

So when you drop a bunch of cash on your big day you’d wanna be sure EVERYONE is gonna bring it with the vibes.

Bec & Michael got EVERYTHING right from the get go.

Firstly they were really fu***ng excited about the big day.

They organised pre drinks with their closest friends (they didn’t have a bridal party). AND their photo shoot was nothing short of sweet & hilarious.

The moment they hit they walked into a room filled with 140 family and friends who were already amped to the max, a minimum two drinks in and full on love.

They got themselves a drink and mingled before I hauled them to the middle of the floor for a circular ceremony with crowd participation and a tonne of movement. It was more like ‘stand up’ but with heartfelt tears from time to time.

From here the entertainment never stopped. Apart from live music , there was a video presentation, a ph***ic cake, hilarious speeches and complete madness.

This was all before the dancing bit even began and by then there was not a single person in the room who wasn’t in peak form.

By 2am there was dancing on the bar ( I’m pretty sure Mr Minh himself started this), lay backs and at sometime when the sun came up everyone staggered out.

They all went into damage control but the only injuries were 140 sore heads.

Bec and Michal were swamped with messages for days saying how their wedding was the best wedding EVER!!!
Memories are made of this stuff.

Key to this was Bec and Michael made sure every aspect of their day reflected them in every way...something most couples miss.

$$$ bloody well spent I say!

THIS GROOMING THING IS HUNGRY BUSINESS...

Russ was gaggin for a feed as you can appreciate if you’ve been in his shoes.

-There’s those nerves when all the guests begin showing up and you realise s**ts about to get REAL.

- There’s the ceremony bit when it’s GAME ON.

- There’s that part where all 140 guests sing to you and your sweating bullets that they all think it’s as much a great idea as you did that time your celebrant (Mwah) and musos Fidel & Sarah gave you too many beers and you agreed.

- There’s the I DO bit where you can stop SWEATING BULLETS because Anna’s committed.

- There’s that .01 of a second where you’re UNDER THE PUMP to get a selfie with your brand new wife and all the guests in the frame.

- There’s the bits where you walk barefoot on the beach for hours to get exquisite images Gold & Grit with your beautiful wife and you can’t even go for a surf (so close yet so far).

- Then there’s that moment when you’re absolutely DEPLETED, you’re leaning against a wall unable to stand next to your new wife in fear of eating her. (You’re so fu***ng hungry).

- FINALLY you eat! You literally knaw the arse end out of a chooks bumb.

- But then your refuelled and you drink in every single moment of the BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE.

WHOLESOME...

If I had to choose a word to sum up Chiara & Adrian’s wedding (and there are many) then that’s the one.

There are plenty more to throw into the mix like KOOKY because they’re both beautifully unusual, interesting, creative souls.

There’s LOVE because of how much they love each other and their family but more than that was the WARMTH radiated by every guest from the genuine love they had for these two.

There was also the FUN with singing and dancing. How guests wore masks with Chiara & Adrian’s faces for the group photo...just because it was funny.

The way everyone bought a plate of food to share, the gypsy band, the community hall...it was unpretentious and it was simply WHOLESOME.

Happy wedding anniversary Chiara Conti Adrian Conti I’m so grateful you chose me to be apart of these memories. ❤️

HEARD BUT NOT SEEN...

Rest assured I won’t turn up in every single one of your wedding pics. I take the narrative stance...stage right (or left, sometimes both).

The upside of this is to give you breathing space while I take the floor before throwing the spotlight back at you. It gives me a vantage point to read the crowd as well as everyone up front. It allows for movement, creative freedom and you don’t get me in every frame.

I’ll be right up close to you when it comes to the important bits because you’ll want some guidance, reassurance and a warm smile.
