The U.S. men’s national cricket team defeated Pakistan on Thursday in a historic upset in the T20 World Cup.

The match in the group-stage round of the tournament was played in a former minor-league baseball park in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie.

Cricket fans around the world are calling the win one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport. On NPR, “All Things Considered” co-host Juana Summers likened it to “the Boston Red Sox losing to the Durham Bulls,” a Minor League Baseball team in North Carolina.

For such a historic moment, few Americans actually saw it. The match was not broadcast on U.S. television, and the stadium holds only about 7,000 people.

Despite its low profile in the U.S., cricket has centuries of history in the country, where it was introduced to the colonies by the British. But it fell by the wayside as other sports such as football, basketball and its younger and simpler cousin baseball grew in popularity.

Shamar Joseph the young West Indies speedster who had his toe crushed yesterday has in turn crushed the Australian batters taking 12 wickets in the match.

Steve Smith carried the innings through to the end.

Australia never do that well when focused on social issues this time trying to change Australia Day when windies focused all on winning.

Great for cricket to see the windies having a win against the world champions.

He's the only cricketer in Test cricket history to score a century and a double century on debut, which he did against New Zealand in 1972, scoring 214 and 100* in respective innings. Two years later, against England in the Kensington Oval, he scored his career-best 302, becoming the second West Indies cricketer to score a triple century in Test cricket. During the same series, he scored another couple of centuries. 19 innings into his career, he had already scored six centuries, which included a triple and a double. He averaged 70.33 at that point.

Unfortunately, he had several issues that held him back. Such as issues with eyesight, different other injuries, and even an allergy to grass. He finished his Test career with 2047 runs at an average of 43.55. Later, he was banned for life by West Indies cricket (the ban was later lifted) for his participation in rebel tours to South Africa. Despite all that, his teammate, Michael Holding, once stated that he was the best batsman Holding ever saw. Even Sir Garry Sobers believed he could have been the greatest of all West Indian batsmen.

Here's wishing a very happy birthday to former West Indies batman Lawrence Rowe. The man who was nicknamed "Yagga" is turning 75 today.
