We have been a little quiet.

On Friday the team at CMS Australasia joined family, friends and colleagues to say our final goodbyes and lay Luke Oliver to rest. We haven’t posted messages or photos to this point, I personally found my focus was toward the family and those intimately involved in Luke’s life.

On Friday we enjoyed the tributes from family friends and work colleagues as they told the condensed version of Luke’s life. Those stories told us who Luke was and what he did, but more importantly, all those stories told us who Luke was to the storytellers. Then as we each reflected, we thought about who Luke was to us personally and individually. In our minds we could extend out the stories to the full-length feature and appreciate the special and unique nature of Luke’s relationship to each of us.

If the last few years has taught us anything, particularly those of us in Victoria with our unique lockdown records, it was less about the tasks we performed and more about who we were to each other, and what we mean to one another. The personal relationships we all hold are the important matters of life; this focus would be known as the director’s commentary on the real stuff of life.

CMS is almost 30 this year and Luke has been part of that family for almost 20 years. We will miss Luke, what he did for us, his eye, professionalism, and his joy. More than that I personally will miss the man, our friend Luke! Luke’s drive to be the best was sometimes lost in the detail and tasks of work; the “what he did” stuff. But that same drive Luke had, was also toward people he loved. He may not have always hit the mark with this drive, who of us does! He wanted each of us to be the best we could in the things that mattered; the relational matters of life; the important stuff, the people stuff.

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are towards Luke’s family. His daughters, his mother, his father, his brother and sister and all the extended family. We shared in Luke’s life and appreciated his love, care, professionalism and kindness that he expressed to each of us personally and individually.

Remember the important stuff!

We've had themed games including Indigenous Round, Starlight Foundation, Luna New Year, Members Round and Throwdown Games along with a Tones & I performance and Pre Season Games, Media Days and Fan Days.
