Through you dedication you have ensured that the beautiful art of Irish dancing continues to grow and thrive in Melbourne. You have left behind a legacy that will continue to grow.

Our thoughts are with your husband Danny, your 5 children (Maura, Kate, Fiona, Brian and Claire) and grandchildren.

After a short and courageous battle, Kathleen passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, December 2nd, surrounded by her devoted husband Danny, her five loving children—Clare, Brian, Fiona, Kate, and Maura—her proud brother Peter, and eldest grandchild Zac.

Kathleen achieved her TCRG and ADCRG qualifications in 1973 and immigrated to Australia with Danny. She quickly established the first branch of the McAleer Dance School. Over the years, Kathleen taught thousands of dancers, produced countless solo and team champions, and built a legacy that is truly remarkable. She also trained and encouraged no fewer than 11 qualified teachers and adjudicators, ensuring that Irish dancing will continue to thrive for generations to come.

Her granddaughters, Lyla, Olivia, and Bonnie, continue to dance and carry on their Nanna’s incredible legacy.

Kathleen was a Life Member of AIDA Inc. and AIDA Victoria, a past president of AIDA Victoria, and in 2013, she received a Gradam award from An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha in recognition of her years of dedication and service to Irish dancing and culture in Australia.

Our hearts are broken, and life will never be the same. How lucky we all were to have you in our lives, although it would never have been long enough.

Our thoughts are with all the members of our dancing community affected by this loss.
